I am getting started early on planning my ice fishing trips this year and I am looking for information on crappie fishing Upper Red Lake in Minnesota. Can anyone recommend a good resort that would put a person who has never fished the lake on some good action? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

I go almost every superbowl weekend to Red and I know there are at least 4 places to get on. If you have to rent a house Hudecs will be fine but call now for reservations. The only problem is if they are not biting in there houses you will end up fishing outside anyways the guy 100' away is killing them.Glow jigs are the secret when they are finicky use a high powered spot to light them up about every 5 min. Makes a huge difference!!
I like it late in the year because they seem really easy to catch but we almost always find them at the end of Jan. For us it has been move, move, and move again if they are not biting. Last year we caught one in 2 min. in the first hole then set up and limited on 1 to 1.5 lbs in 1 hour. Next day same place we worked hard to get 5 apeice by 10 pm and we tried 1/2 mile circle around that spot with no more luck.
It's a blast just pulling the 1.5 lbs through that 8" hole what slabs you won't regret it!!!

Have fun

Minn: You may want to give Westwind a call. They are just a mile south of Waskish and are great in the food dept. I stopped last weekend for a snack, and they advised they have a new road to the lake. Last year the roads through the bog, most places have them, are bad to get on to the ice. It's is not as crowded as Hudeks. Places to sleep are another thing. 38 miles to Baudette with motels. Good luck FISHING...Kaz
