Spent 6 hours(7:30-1:30pm)trolling with various Shad Raps. Tried the powerlines, the island to the north, Breezy Point and the mouth of the Red. Caught zero walleye and one small mouth bass. We have experience but don't enjoy jigging. Saw NOBODY catching anything but small sauger and small catfish. I suspect some of the previous messages are very suspect. We fished Monday, Oct. 7th. Fishing still SUCKS. We have been going every weekend and the greenbacks are still not there. A strange year - where are they?????????

I am not an expert on the Red River but I spent ten days fishing it in 1992 from about Sept 16 on. Not everyday was excellent but many days were. A couple of locals trolled very near my boat and one of the made the comment to the other: Don't tell me color does not make a difference, as soon as I switched it was one hit after another". They were very close so I asked what was the color. He started to get coy then said it was a perch colored shad rap.
I got one on my line and the action picked up quickly and in two days caught many eyes with about four right at 9-10 lbs.
Two more trips to the Red after Sept 15 were somewhat disappointing.
Timing means everything and I am not giving up on the Red.
You gotta love this sport.

I believe that the water temps are still in the 50's. Once they hit the high to mid 40's watch out.
I fished the red with four good friends on Saturday the 6th. It was by far the best day on the river I have ever had. I got to see my best buddy(7-year old son) catch an 8lb eye. What a rush! We fished about a mile south of the landing in Selkirk, jigged in 14-15ft of water, 3/8oz-any bright color worked. We saw a 15lb hog taken, what a fish. Take a kid fishing, the memories will last forever.
