I am going to buy a mid price range depth finder. Please give me your opinion on which is the best one to buy?
Thank You

John,
Check into the Garmin 240.
Not to be nosy, but is this the same J Goodlove from SE Iowa?

The Pinpoint equipment offers SO much versatility that I feel makes them a great investment. They do a great job of showing fish and structure, and have features such as flashchart and nightview that I use quite a bit. The 7420 would be a great choice if it is in your price range. The ability to upgrade the unit and "build" and network more then one sonar are key issues when I look to the future. For instance, one of my friends started with one Pinpoint unit when he bought his boat and added a new one at the bow this year.
There are a lot of good units out there and Pinpoint is one of them. Take a look at function, features and ease of use when making a decision. Pinpoint's 2 year warranty and great customer service are also worth mention.
Good Luck,

I'll tell you what I tell all my customers when they are looking for depth finders, "Stay away from Hummingbirds!" If all you want is a "depth finder" they'll work fine. If you want to see fish and what's really down there, go with some thing else. I'd reccommed the Eagle Ultra Classic. This years model may be under a different name. You can get them with speed and temp for under $300.

take a look at raytheons. Have allot of of features for cheap. also 2 differnt opperating frequenies
My father uses Lowrance exclusivley and really likes the graph. Good detail and reliability for under $200.00 (X-49) I personally have a bottom line and I only purchased it because for the money, I couldn't find any other depth finder with the Temp Sensor. I only paid $139.00, but I will definately spend more bucks next time to get better picture quality and more accuracy.
Check out the "usual" sporting good stores, but be sure to compare with prices at Wal-Mart. They have actually had some pretty good deals. Also, you might be able to find a new LCD in last years model much cheaper.
Good luck!
