LAST EDITED ON May-03-00 AT 00:27AM (CST)[p]Yesterday I blocked the html code ability on the board, some very good points came up. Today I have compromised, html will be able to be posted but it won't be a "clickable link". We'll try it from there and see how it goes.

My intention is never to squelch free speech in a Hitler type manner (inside joke to one person) or to "keep people here" as another mentioned but to put a stop to inconsiderate people spamming the board with nonsense posts just to get their website address on the board in hopes that someone will go there.

The Fishing Reports board is the main problem and the General Discussion board gets it's share of "Here is my site address, come see it" posts that I believe are not valuable information but an attempt to advertise.

But, I see nothing wrong with someone offering a site address in posts such as the GPS SA removal post or if someone asks for one like "What is the site address of Pinpoint", these types of URL's offer information and are more than welcome here. Can you see the difference? To me it's a simple deal, one offers information the other isn't.

I just don't like people posting on the Fishing Reports with a lame post like: "the fish are biting in Green Bay (for example)" then leaving a site address to go to. This morning I removed a post that simply said "PWT, NAWA and MWT results are available at my site" Who asked for them? It didn't answer any question, no one was asking, in my opinion it was just there to get people to that site, to me that is advertising.

I offer several ways to help people get more exposure for their websites. Link exchanges, Featured Site of the Week, The Fishing Explorer Search Engine and the Webring are all there to help, there is no need to use the message board for it.

I hope that explains the intent and maybe slows down some of the URL spamming, we'll see.

As I've always said: "Please use this board for its intended purpose" ... in a nutshell that is all I want people to do.

Kudo's to you!! I have my regular routine that starts with scanning my local board, then it was to the BFHP, and next to the striper board, and then to this one. This is the best one on the web, the folks are very helpfull, hardly any vile language, and no chest beating about their rigs.I just quit looking at the BFHP, the "metal flake morons" have just about stopped me from even talking about bass fishing.Keep up the good work, this is now my number two spot{gotta go to the local to see who's calling who every name under the sun}, and the lake reports do help .I wish there were more "eye " fishermen here in SC ky, there are lots of those walleye, but the info is a closly guarded secret.

This is the most interesting and informative board on the web, in my opinion, and you guys (and gals) are to be commended for your efforts. As a regular visitor, I must agree with your decisions and can only say: "Keep it up!"

I can certainly understand your concern with spammers and they can be dealt with accordingly by suspending their posting privledges. I think by not intercepting peoples remarks & URL's is a good thing & will prevent the type of backlash experienced yesterday. Having said that, you are wrong about the remark you said about the posting of tournament information for the PWT, MWT, & NAWA. Go back through the posts and there were several requests from people looking for the results of these tournaments and could not find them. I was merely pointing them to a site that had these results. In the future, I will just tell them to email me if they want any information. Regards....

I can see your general point, but I disagree with what you said about "PWT, NAWA and MWT results are available at my site". I think it was just someone offering to share some information. After all, isn't that what this site is all about?

Thanks,

Joel B.

Fair enough Scott. This board is a great resource and you are doing a fine job of managing it in my opinion.

Its a fine line you are trying to walk. Your intent is good and I am sure these decisions are not made lightly. I appreciate that you have listened to your constituents and compromised. Nicely done.

Scott,
I have been here for the duration, and I can't think of any better ways of handling the issues that have come up. I commend you for your insights and efforts to make this an ever changing but better place to visit. Change is good, if it makes things better, and you certainly have done that. Just remember,"You can make some of the people happy all of the time, and you can make all of the people happy some of the time, but you can't make ALL of the people happy ALL of the time"
Just keep on keepin' on.

Ditto to The Big One.

I still have one question--what's up with the locked threads that read, "Archived thread - Read only"? Some are less than a day old.

Scott,
I agree with you in every way on this on. I have posted some HTML's before, but they are for things like Liqua-Lube, etc. Things that we are discussing and questioning are when these are beneficial. I was on the chat site the other night and some girl named "horsegirl" was telling me the weather was "hot" and she wanted to know my age, well, I told her this was a fishing site and not a dating site. Don't get me wrong, I like to talk to other women, ask my wife, but when I'm on this site, I want to talk about fishing or I would not be here. Again, keep up the good work.
