LAST EDITED ON May-03-00 AT 00:27AM (CST)[p]Yesterday I blocked the html code ability on the board, some very good points came up. Today I have compromised, html will be able to be posted but it won't be a "clickable link". We'll try it from there and see how it goes.
My intention is never to squelch free speech in a Hitler type manner (inside joke to one person) or to "keep people here" as another mentioned but to put a stop to inconsiderate people spamming the board with nonsense posts just to get their website address on the board in hopes that someone will go there.
The Fishing Reports board is the main problem and the General Discussion board gets it's share of "Here is my site address, come see it" posts that I believe are not valuable information but an attempt to advertise.
But, I see nothing wrong with someone offering a site address in posts such as the GPS SA removal post or if someone asks for one like "What is the site address of Pinpoint", these types of URL's offer information and are more than welcome here. Can you see the difference? To me it's a simple deal, one offers information the other isn't.
I just don't like people posting on the Fishing Reports with a lame post like: "the fish are biting in Green Bay (for example)" then leaving a site address to go to. This morning I removed a post that simply said "PWT, NAWA and MWT results are available at my site" Who asked for them? It didn't answer any question, no one was asking, in my opinion it was just there to get people to that site, to me that is advertising.
I offer several ways to help people get more exposure for their websites. Link exchanges, Featured Site of the Week, The Fishing Explorer Search Engine and the Webring are all there to help, there is no need to use the message board for it.
I hope that explains the intent and maybe slows down some of the URL spamming, we'll see.
As I've always said: "Please use this board for its intended purpose" ... in a nutshell that is all I want people to do.
