View Full Version : prop destroyed at Ver..
We fished out of Vermillion Sat. When we backed out of the up stream ramp, my prop lost a battle with something under the surface. We later talked to some guys who dinged there equip. on the same object. The water was too dingy to see what it was. Be warned...pkb
I also hit whatever it was when i was driveing my boat onto the trailer.I looked at my depth finder it it read only 1.8 ft there.it may be the end of the ramp where it drops off into the river.I hit it with enough force to stall the motor and if someone was there i would have told them to put a sign there so people dont tear there props up.Kdog

Glad you mentioned this! While backing out of the same ramp my boat sounded like I was drilling into concrete. Turned out that was exactly what I was doing and my prop got pretty dinged up, although it's still working. I think they SHOULD put a sign there telling you to PUSH OFF FAR backwards before you start backing up! That is at least 3 people on one weekend.

I will notify the port authority here
Ditto..While backing up I hit something, shut the motor down to look at my prop and too late. All three blades chewed up.I told the dockmaster and he said no other problems,I was the first complaint.Next time I push off the very end of the ramp.

I'm sorry to ask, but are you talking about Ohio or Minnesota. If Ohio what would make the water level in the river so low? Thanks.

Vermilion Ohio-2 weeks of strong south and west winds. It's blowing in the 30's right now from the SW. All the ramp water levels are down. Be careful wherever you put in!

Don't mean to be a smartass, but don't you always trim way up when in shallow water?
We didn't hit bottom, it was something sticking out from peer or up from bottom. I'd backed 10 or 15 feet before I hit it....pkb
