I will use the rod for dipsey set up in fish-on holders. Recently someone suggested the BPS Walleye Angler Signature Series, WA86T-T. I looked this up and it is a trigger rod, with the fish-on I think I would be better with no trigger? I am also hearing more about the retractable butt rods. This sounds like it would be better for storage but I can not find a good description in the catalogs. A few months ago another a guy mentioned a P&K rod but I could not find it.
I'm a long time fisherman but new to these techniques. Any help would be appreciated.
I called Den in Vermilion. You guys are right, he is very accomadating. Does his store carry these products? Also I keep hearing about the get together. Would there be anything there that would help in my search?
This is long but after putting my boat away, I sure want to be ready for next year.

Den's store is about 20 minutes away from the get together site. Probably several guys will be running Dipsys in the braggin rights tournament. On water experience is hard to beat. It would probably be worth your while (if the weather cooperates).

Give me a call at the shop, and i will try to explain what i can to help you in any way i can.a lot depends on how much room you have to store the rods in, and how long of a rod that you like to use, and whether you like a 1 or 2 piece rod, or prefere the telescoping style. Another thing is that dipsey rods dont have to be expensive. call me at 1-888-855-9032. good luck and good fishin.

I just downloaded the agenda and info. I am going to try and make it to part of the get together. Seems like I could save me a lot of typing if I just bring my questions with me. I just hope it doesn't hurt to bad, having just put all my stuff away. Thanks for the help and good fishing to those that go out.

Nitecrawler we've been using the WA86T-T P&k Rods for a few years pulling Jet 20 and 3/0 mini dipsys with planer boards and they work real well.
Actually the we are partial to the Jet 20 because it's not as speed dependent and you can achieve arround the same depth. :-)

I forgot to mention if you use the 3/0 mini dipsy with the planer boards you will have to use the "0" setting to pull the lure straight, the planer board will
get youre lure awat from the boat. My bad :-)

P&K are the signature series rods from Bass Pro. I've been using them for 5 or 6 years and recomend them. The last time we discussed these someone said they were on sale.

Lundy, Thanks dude, I had no idea that you could pull them. I've just been pulling cranks with snap-weights, or lead-core. I would like to know more about jets, e-mail me please.
Walizz, I had said they were on sale. The last set I ordered the guy told me that they were on sale from a stuffing flyer, I didn't get that flyer but had called the month before and just asked if they were on sale, and they were. I have the jig, bottom bouncer, and trolling rods. I must say they are fine rods, LOVE Them ALL!!!
If you guys want some call and use Y105 key code, and put the #34- instead of starting with the #12, Hope there still on sale for you there great rods.

As others have said come on down to the Get Together. You'll more than likely get an opportunity to catch a ride with someone there for some fishing. If you plan to run the dipseys very much and definitley if you plan to run the big dipseys (size one) I'd STRONGLY advise you to reconsider your choice of rodholders. Go with any of the metal rodholders. I know there are people that successfully run the dipseys from platic rod holders but I prefer to do my gambling in Vegas. Big dipseys pull VERY HARD. Talk to Den about rodholders too. 888 855 9032. If your boat has a railing on the back clampon holders like Lee's (best) or Perkos are hard to beat as they can be setup in just about any angle. Others I'd recommend are Vector, Berts, Big Jon, and Titelock.
Good Luck,
Steve

I am a little stuck on the rod holder. The dealer installed the flush mount fish-ons when I bought the boat. I had them on a boat I had years ago and they were fine. I was initially looking at them to hold the pole while I did something else. Then I started coming to Erie more and ran into this dipsey stuff. This set up and the shortened angle I have to put the pole in the holder is why I wonder about the trigger.
If it could be done nicely and was necessary I would be willing to change. The boat is a 2001 1900 ProV Lund, so I don't want to mess it up.
I am already trying to get Friday off and come to the get together. Is this get together better for 2-3 guys, a dad and 16 yr old son or both? Who knows, my son is just starting to drive and may have other plans. I may come by my self.
Thanks again

If you are coming to the get together on Friday, be at the site of the Fish Fry around 3PM. Scott asked guys to have their boats there so people can check out how things are setup and ask questions. Also walk around the Huron Boat Basin and look at setups there. As far as whether you want to bring a couple buddies or your 16 year old son, how about both. Whatever you are into (fishing the whole time, partying, meeting other people, or a little bit of everything) there are groups of people doing all the above there so if your son wants to come along BRING HIM - but don't force him to come. Check out the pictures on the "Mainpage" of the last couple years to get an idea of what to expect and read some of the stories. It will be a good time for whoever comes.

Thanks for the reply. I plan on being there Fri am and stay till whenever Sat. I'll be full of questions and taken in the sites you just mentioned. My son just passed his driver test tonight, so we will see. He has been a fishing buddy for 15 yrs. I agree with what you said, if he WANT's to come it will be fine.
I am starting to call for a room this week.
See all there.
