Hey there,
As I understand it, you can fish the RCL as a boater only if you are the original owner of the Ranger, Crestliner or Lund under your feet. You can fish as a non-boater, even if you don't own a boat!

That's a bad deal for uys on the Pro staffs of Ranger, Lund and Crestiner. How are they going to seel the boats if the people buying them can't fish these events? Interesting?

I believe you can fish it on the Pro side if you are not the original owner, but you can not get bonus money at the championship if not the original. I think Mark Gilbertson sp? (fish 24-7) had that same problem.

Hey there,
I could be wrong too. I have not read the rules thoroughly, as maybe I should. But, if you are on the pro staff, especially with Ranger, you do buy your boat, you are the original owner. At least in my experience.
Your best bet is going to Operation Walleye and see for yourself, or call Sonny directly and talk with him.He has always been great to deal with and very helpful.

you are correct, you do NOT have to be the original owner to fish the RCL. But you DO have to be the original owner to be eligible for bonus money at the championship.

I read the rules and it says you have to be a registered owner to fish the Pro side. So that leaves me to believe you can buy a used one and fish the events. I understand the bonus thing for original owners. But don't they only hand out bonus money during the Championship? Good fishing and don't forget to shoot the puck. Mike Peluso #999

You can fish the RCL as a registered owner (even if not the original owner)of an RCL boat, but the bonus money is the thing that will be impacted if you think you're going to earn the extra money by fishing the championship.
Bottomn line is this... if you are the ORIGINAL OWNER of one of the RCL boats or motors, you will qualify for the bonus money. The other qualifying tournaments will have nothing to do with that requirement. You still need to have an RCL boat to enter as a pro though.
If you're fishing as a co-angler in any of the tourneys, you're not handicapped at all relative to the qualifying events or ownership, just the bonus money for the Championship.
Let me know if you have any questions.

Does anyone know who will be the motor sponsors in the RCL for 2002?
I have heard rumors of Mercury dropping out and that the new OMC Bombardier co. has the first rights to the sponsorship. Sure would be nice to know so one can rig the new boat with the right power plant. Could be a costly mistake if one was to finish well in the championship and not have the right name on your stuff.
