I took a trip to LBDN in oct. i had a great time, but there is something i would like to say..If people keep over fishing it , it will be a bust in a short time..I saw a lot of fish being taken out over the limit...next to the place we stayed the same guys went out 2 and 3 times a day and got a limit of walleye..it wont be long and will be wondering what happen to all the fish...think about it ...Hookman

Okay, not slaming you or blaming you, but if you saw this happening a call to the CO's would have been in order. There is a possesion limit, and a daily limit. And they would certainly do a steak out. It is incumbant on everyone to make sure there is a fishery there tomorrow.

I'll go ahead and slam you if the other guy won't. Report the guys that do this crap there is NO room for that in this day and age. Don't sit on the fence and howl about it call the CO and get their butt busted. If you don't you are just as much to blame. That is my opinion./

The DNR in the UP does a great job responding to complaints. I've had several return calls from them after returning home from other trips to let me know status of calls to the hot line. I just got back last night from LBDN. Our club had an outing with aprox 75 members in attendance. A large number of big fish were caught and released. One of my good friends had a 10 plus and a dandy 11-3 that mugged for the camera and got returned for somebody else to catch. The fishery seems to be in better shape than it was many years ago. We don't get the same numbers of all large fish but it's nice to see all different year classes in the system. That's something we've only seen in the last 4-5 years. The stocking and natural reproduction seem to be working very well.

Good for you!!!!
I am glad you did, hopefully something will be done about it.
Over harvest is something we should all not tolerate.

If you come across that situation again, be sure to let the resort/motel owners know about it. Most of them fish and don't want scuz balls like that staying at their place. Many of them have the C.O.'s home numbers and can usually get a faster response time than calling the R.A.P. number. Violaters suck!

Legal or Illegal?
Ethical or unethical?
Right or Wrong?

I'm sure I'm stirring the pot and will hear that if it's legal it's okay but here it goes............

I stayed at the Terrace Bay this weekend and was a little disappointed to see that both barrels in the fish house were heaped full every night w/ many fish looking awfully long. I sure wish that we'd get over the mentality that we need to kill 'em to show our expertise. Please don't get me wrong, I have no problem w/ selected harvest and in fact practiced a little myself this weekend. I even had a little conversation in the boat w/ a partner who wanted to throw back the eaters and only keep those just under the slot plus our allotted slot.

Sure wish more people carried Polaroid cameras to show off their catch. Talked to one guy who bragged about cleaning their limit everyday since Tuesday and there were four in the party. Sure are a lot of filets in that freezer.

Glad to hear that wardens are out and tickets are being issued. Heard on the radio Saturday night that one guy was laughing about getting his second ticket this season. Radio became quieter when people realized that they were out.

Let 'em go, let 'em grow

Legal?? It is not legal to take over the limit in Mi. period! Some people don't read the rulebook. The posession limit is 5 fish also, so how can anyone take more than that home? The rulebook also states that (you must stop fishing once your limit is reached) which I take to mean that you can't help other people catch their limit. Transportation of fish fillets are also illegal. The species must be able to be identified. If fishermen would read the rulebook, a lot of this meat hog fishing would stop? I doubt it. Lawbreakers will still do it. I think that the MDNR should start checking the freezers at the resorts, and the coolers of the meat hogs. I hope that I did stir the pot, and ruffle a few feathers, but d**** it, read the rulebook and follow it!
