Can any of the WC locals near Huron give us poor souls who couldn't make it an update on the events. Thanks for any info.

Hugh,
The fishing wasn't so great this year, but the fish fry Friday night was outstanding with incredible sponsor give aways.
The bragging rights tourney signup was around 120 teams and most teams didn't weigh fish. The plaques given out and donated by Cabelas were awesome. The lake was nasty with angry looking 4 footers, that just got worse as you went out further.
Juls was taking lots of pictures at the fish fry, and others were also. I'm sure Scott will post more info as soon as possible, there's still one more day to try to get them turned on. There will be some good stories coming out, but I'll let the guys that are good at telling them do it. It was lots of fun and I'm waiting for details and stories just like you are!

I'm glad to hear that everyone made it back safely. I had the pleasure of fishing with Mark Glibertson and his father. As we were preparing to depart Saturday, one of our friends was returning for dry clothes after taking a nasty over the bow. We elected just to pack up and go home after already battling the big water for a couple of days. I’m sorry that I missed the weigh-in and stories afterward but I’m darn glad to be home hugging my daughters. Those trophies where indeed nice but not as nice as the two blondes sitting next to me now.
Like ezmarc said, the fishing was spotty as it has been all fall. There’s been just too much wind. However, when you get’em they’re beauties.

If you weren't there, make plans for next year! The fish in the boat were catches of a lifetime and so were the memories. The volunteers representing WC exceeded any definition of "welcome" and Scott's hard work in organizing the event was evident.
You can go there knowing nothing, hear "Walleye Central" over the radio and know valuable information followed. One would think lunch was on the way hearing, Fried Chicken, Pink Lemonade & Bubblegum at 180' back but following directions paid off. The weather was rough but wouldn't keep us from returning. Only 7 more working days until Thanksgiving Weekend & we'll be back.
Special Thanks to new friends Jeff, Mark & Ralph who added to our great time and "Drifter" & "Dakota" for shared info. We would be lax if not to mention the genuine kindness of Den at the baitshop. Definitely give him a call when in the area. Much appreciation to all. Paul & Valerie Rogers

Me and my to co-harts were out at the 29/24 area at 8AM saturday and saw only one other boat. We had 6ers with huge swells. We chose not to attempt putting out boards. Wise decision.... It was a quick and decisive vote that headed the Champion back to the harbor for dry, warm clothes. 7 miles out and 7 miles back. Just a little boat ride in some nasty stuff. The boat we saw followed us back in.
Scott and pals put on a great show and feed. The Huron group did a super job and we all congratulate them. We will be back. Maybe even in a week or so.
Thanks to all.

Oops forgot. I was at Den's Weds night and got a photo of a dandy 14-10 that group brought in to weigh along with another 10#er. That was some incentive!!

We just got back to northern Illinois (just in time for the Packer/Bear game) and finished unpacking. We got to Huron on Wed. afternoon and heard the fishing had been tough. On the way out to the 29/29 mark we ran into some other friends who told us about "pink lemonade". I pulled out all my Reef Runners and put the only thing on that had pink in it. Twenty minutes later I had a 10-2 in the boat and was thinking it couldn't be too tough of a bite. That was the last walleye we took on Wednesday. We opted to hit the smallmouth before heading back to port and connected on a 5-4 and a dandy 6-2. That alone made the trip for me. Thursday and Friday were just so-so for numbers but my partner did take an 11-3. Saturday started out with a "bang". My partner slipped on the deck of his Ranger and tried to knock himself out falling in the boat. I found him sitting in the boat with blood streaming down his face from several gashes and an eye that looks like he's been through about ten rounds this morning ! We got him cleaned up and headed out to the 28 line for about ten minutes. Common sense took hold and we ran back to the 25 line and made several passes. On the first pass, I hooked a monster and got it right next to the boat before a wave surge vs fireline seperated us from the big fish pot !!.....at least we were in the pot !! LOL We stuck it out until about noon but each pass got worse. My partner was soaked to the skin but at least the cold water in his face kept the swelling down. It was one of the wetter rides that I've had to date and I have to say the Guidewear I bought a week before the trip was the best investment I've made. The advise I got on the board and the help from Cabela's was a great.
The entire trip was tons of fun and I can't say enough about the efforts from all the people that put this on. This gets bigger every year and Huron is missing out on a super chance to get involved with a worthwhile event.
Be sure to stop in and see Den. He was a great connection for all the hot Reef Runner colors

Jim,
That was a "bad blow" on Sat. for sure. We met you guys in the lot as we were leaving the fish fry, the guy pulling out with the Warrior in tow, and wondered how you made out. That's a good group you fish with and nice to have met you guys. Did you wind up going out of Vermilion? Keep us posted on your fishing success next season in the midwest heartland.
Regards,
Bob Potts
My wife and I had a great time. We arrived on Thursday afternoon and went to Den's to pick up licenses (and a few cranks :-)). Too rough to get out on Thursday afternoon though. We went out early Friday a.m. We got out to the 30/26 and my wife says "I don't feel so well..." Now, the waves weren't too bad, but for someone used to fishing northern WI lakes it was a change. So she started chumming and I started putting out lines :-). First pass we had a board go back and got a fat 25" on a bubblegum Reef Runner. She brought that fish in and temporarily felt better. As we went east the water became dirtier, so we picked up and headed west again. Again, she started chumming and I put out the lines. We went about a 1/2 mile and had another board go back and I brought in another fat 25" 'eye (bubblegum again). Not but 10 minutes later another board went and my wife brought in a 26.5" fish (bubblegum again). However, that was all she could handle for the day so we headed in. The fry was great, thanks for the slaw Perchjerker! The fish was wonderful. That hall was FULL! We did manage to win some Reef Runners in the raffle - thanks Scott! Thanks to all the companies who made donations (Cabela's, Galyan's, Reef Runner, MI Stinger, Off-Shore, the Teddy Bear people...). We picked up some Bomine and some of those sea-sick wrist bands for the tournament on Saturday and headed out about 7:00. As soon as we got out of the river we could see it was going to be a rough one. The sea-sick preventions worked perfect - the wife was fine. We started trolling around the 25/26 and went out to the 28/26. Once you got out about 3 miles everything seemed to change and the swells really jumped up. We made a couple of passes, but decided to head it in once we started taking waves over the stern (one actually crested over the top of the kicker :-)). My wife said "I made us go in yesterday, you make the call today". Fun ride in. We stayed over Saturday night and headed home Sunday a.m. and listened to the Packers - Bears. GO PACK! Looking forward to next year, can't wait.
Thanks for all the work you guys and gals put into this event, it was awesome.
Best Regards,
FJH1 (Jamie)

I know the feeling. We left at 2AM to have enough time to unpack and still watch the game. We were seeing Bear fans going to the game at 8AM as we went through Chicago. My second favorite team was playing for the double-header....( that would be whoever plays the Vikes ) LOL

Jamie-
Yea, it was fun to meet a bunch of fellow WC'ers you read from all the time here. Glad you got some fish, we were going to try Sun morning but that North Wind early made us pack up and head back.I started a new job today and wanted to be fresh and ready to go!
Glad you enjoyed the slaw, like I told Den, my wife thinks I'm a nut for bringing home 15 heads of cabbage, but then she's probably right...who else enjoys fishing in November in a biting wind?
See ya there next year...
