I just moved into the West Metro area and want to put an ice house out on Lake Minnetonka this year. Does anyone have any advice on a particular bay that generally is pretty productive for walleye?

If you look at a decent map of Minnetonka, you will see a series of reefs that run east-north-east off the east side of Big Island, north of Carsons Bay. There are also some humps between Carsons and the reefs. These areas have been productive for me the past couple winters. You can drive onto the lake at the Carsons Bay landing off Minnetonka Boulevard.

Shamakes: Dave is on top of this one and has the correct info. Another tip is to stop the Wayzata Bait and check for the hot spots, if you want to jump around a little when it's not to cold. Minnetonka is a great fishery and a lot of good fish come out of there. I beleive Dave fishes that lake quite often, he knows the scoop. Good luck FISHING....Kaz

My walleye fishing is limited. About all the walleye chasing I get to do is fish Tonka through the ice. It has a real good ice bite. It changes alot throughout the winter though. I'd recommend a portable rather than a permanent. Early ice has a real good weedline bite and the humps tend to be best later. The lower lake (Browns bay, Wayzata bay) are the most popular, but the upper lake can be even better at times. Talk to Tim a Wayzata Bait & Tackle, he'll point you in the right direction.
