What is the walleye mystique? I know why I like to fish them, how about you folks? I don't fish them because they're great fighters and I don't often keep many for the table. But I'll target them on opening day.

Unlike bass, the eyes keep you thinking...they are always moving, so you have to find them, and figure out what they want to eat that day. I love to troll, and I can't remember when I last trolled for a bass... hehehe

There are so many things I like about fishing for walleye, but it's cleaning day, so I better get off this thing before I write a book. :7

Good question...I'm curious to see some of the answers.

In a nutshell, I love to target walleye because of the diversity required from the angler to take them consistently. As a Michigan resident, we also fish for bass, musky and salmon quite a bit. As a general rule, we target those species pretty much the same way each time out with few modifications. Walleye, on the other hand, always keep you guessing and require a much broader approach. Some days it's trolling shallow, some days deep w/ dipseys, some days you're fishing the tops of weeds with slip bobbers. Come to think of it, because of this diversity, walleye fishing costs me much more than the others.....wait a minute...

ONE WORD - ELUSIVE!!

Besides, Bass taste like somebody's old sock. I fish all species but I target WALLEYE. If I were to keep a fish for the table, it would be Walleye even though they can drive a person insane when they're "off the bite"!!!!

Things that makes me like 'eyes:
1) The adrenalin charge I get when I first see the white tip on a large walleye's tail as it becomes visible
2) The head-shake of a sizeable walleye after a hookset 25 feet down
3) Fillets
4) We get to buy lots of stuff!
