During which part of the month do the Walleyes migrate to the Mud Flats? In know this depends on water temperature, but I just need to get an overall average.

The Walleyes usually start migrating out to the flats in late May to early june. Last year the best action was around June 20th for me. The bigger walleyes tend to move out to the flats earlier than some of the smaller males do. Hope this information helps you. Mille Lacs Guy.

If you drove out to the flats today, you'd already find fish there. The last 2 fishing openers I've spent on the mud. Had it almost all to myself and boy were there lots of fish. I guess the best way to answer your question is they start going there right after the spawn and continue until mid summer.

Walleyes don't actually migrate to the mud flats. They hang out their year round. That is why many ice fisherman do so well with size and numbers in the winter. Another presentation that you might want to try is dragging a #9 shad rap adjacent to the ledges on the flats. I will be trying some of the smaller flats which go untouched. Also make sure you keep your weight off the bottom when lindy rigging or pulling spinners because the silt is easily stirred up which will result in less fish caught. Good luck.

Mudman, What color #9 do you like and are you using fireline? How do you get down to 23ft? I have run reef runners on flat, but no luck yet.
You can e-mail me, Thanks, dennis

Best time to fish the mud is summer time. 23-25ft. at night with a lighted slip. late June through August. It's beautiful at night with all the boat lights on. You'll get fish of all sizes.
