Does anyone know the model #'s of the Shakespeare line counter reels, or where they are available? I checked Shakespeare's site, but didn't see them. Thanks,
Todd

Todd,
they are called "tidewater" line counters. one model is a TW10LCL which is similar in size to the daiwa 27 and the other model is a TW30LCL.
I have two of the smaller, TW10LCL's. I bought mine from ebay. They appear to be a decent reel. I've spooled them with mono but to be honest, have never used them.
If interested, drop me a line at boatnut@onebox.com. I'd be willing to part with them for a fair price.

Mike,
If you need a line counter, don't be so quick to sell those. Try them out, you will like them. I have used a couple of the 10's all summer and really like them. They have a nice drag, and are tough little guys. I used the Okuma's before these and the Shakespeares are smoother and have a nicer drag. The Daiwas are nice reels, but I can buy 3 Shakespears for the cost of one Daiwa.
Just a thought.

Have any of you folks used the CAbela's reels with the digital line counter? I was thinking of having Santa drop me a couple of those this year. How do they compare to the Shakespere and Diawa? Thanks for any input-lb

My father has been through 4 Cabelas digitals in 1 1/2 seasons. Bought two, returned them for two more. The drags on the reels wore out to the point it wouldn't even reel in a planer boards. If memory serves me right the drag didn't die on one, but the counter stopped working. The only good thing I can say, is since the are Cabelas, Cabelas is always happy to replace them for you.
I own a couple of the Shakespeare counters and am very happy with them. Granted, they are no Diawa, but for the cost, you can't beat them.

Check out www.cabelas.com. They sell the little ones for 39.99. I plan on order a few and giving them a try next year. A linecounter for $40 is hard to beat if they are any count at all.

I have used the Shakespeares. The drags are very smooth. I have had trouble getting the counters to reset at times. The numbers are also smaller than on the Daiwas or Cabelas which can be tough on 40+ year-old eyes. I recommend calibrating the counters against a tape measure. I also went through 4 of Cabela's original digital line-counters. The problems with them supposedly have been fixed.

TBO,
That's just it...I dont really need anymore linecounters. I've got six 27's and two 47lc's so the shakespeares just sit in the box. rather sell them and put the money towards something i can use.
So many reels..so little time! :)

I got my Shakespeare line counters at Fleet Farm. I got those for salmon fishing only. I agree that the line counter sometimes does not reset and in a couple cases start. But works well for my limited fishing for salmon for a couple weekends a year. However, my trolling walleye rods are set up with Diawas - I would not trade them for the less expensive Shakespeares. They get a tremenous amount of use with little trouble. My tournament partner has Penn's, they are very good also but that darn reset button gets in the way on the electronic line counter.
