Ice fishing has been great in SD this winter but we have had a rash of out of staters taking way over their limit and some have been caught but not all. If you are one that got away please leave some fish for the rest of us and for you or your children when they grow up. for the law abiders it's been great having you here hope your fishing was good

Jigger:
As a law-abiding non-resident, I'd like to say that I appreciate your sentiments. I was able to make a couple trips to your state this winter.
After 3 or 4 days fishing each trip, two of us brought back a total of around 120 perch for both trips (our posession limit would have been 100 each trip = 200), 2 walleye, and 3 or 4 pike. A S.D. conservation officer that I talked to said that he believes that most non-residents have much less impact on the fish populations than folks who live in the area who follow the hot bite from lake to lake, taking home a bucketful each day that it's possible.
You have great water resources--it's a privilege for me to be allowed to participate!
Good fishin'!

The SD state law is NOT possesion per trip but TOTALLY limit. Your total limit for 2 persons is 100 fish. :)

Jungle:
You are correct. One trip was in late December and the other in late January. And guess what--all the perch are gone from my freezer again!
Good countin'!
