Posted a while ago concerning the Chip, and got a couple responses from some people who'd be going up for opener. Changed jobs since then and lost their email addresses. Hopefully they'll see this post.

And has anyone else been up there lately, or before, and can clue me in on a couple of things? Like which side of the lake would provide the better Walleye fishing? (I've heard that maybe one side might be better that the other, not sure which though). Any hot spots that seem to produce on a more consistant basis we should check out?

We plan to stay at one of the DNR island camp sites. Could anyone recomend any? (We do have a map of where they're located. Just wondering which ones might be better than the rest) And we'll be coming in from the south-east. Any recomendations as to a good bait store to stop at and a good ramp to park the rigs for the weekend?

Thanks to anyone who can answer any of these questions!

Steve

I can't help tell you which side is better for walleyes- I have only fished the eastern half. I do know that you need to find the channels or some cribs and use nightcrawlers-(pinched in half and threaded onto a jig like a twister tail). Also, work any weeds you find. I have heard that if you find a floating bog that there is usually good fishing around them.

I have stayed at about 5 different DNR campsites on the "chip"-all have been nice. I recomend choosing an island with decent exposure. It always helped keep the critters away and a lake breeze is always refreshing and somewhat bug-free.

I would suggest the site near eagle's nest island. There is one to the south in a channel that is not bad, except for the traffic. There are some real nice sites on the south east side. My all time favorite is the site located there on a point. I forget exactly (and I don't have a map right now) but there is a river channel that runs right in front of it. You could probably cast into 20' of water from shore. There is an incredible view in all directions and it is usually pretty quiet. This site is marked by an old tire swing in the trees on the point. I believe this site is by the Cranberry Bars.

I lived on those islands for 2 weeks one time- I miss them. Enjoy your stay.--Todd
