so, what's the deal with these chubby darters? are they the hottest thing in the ice fishing world since the underwater camera?, which i love my Vista cam very much (thanks bob jensen!).
i just bought two chubby's because the in-fisherman ice fishing mag i just bought made them sound great.
also, if you do use them, what is the best technique to use? dropline?

thanks guys.

(Is this the poor college kid who was looking for a ice auger recently? If so, I hope you found one.)

The Chubby darter is a vertical jigging presentation that you can use much the same as a jigging Rapala or a Nils Master Jigging Shad.

Any time you target a fish in a vertical manner, on open water or ice they are well worth a try. I have had great luck jigging them this fall for walleye holding on river holes and slackwaters. So keep that in mind if the ice is slow to show up. ;)

You can tip them with magi's or a minnow head on the tail hook. Another option is to just add a liquid scent so not to hinder the action of the lure.

From beating the mud to high off the bottom these guys call in fish, all depending on the mood of the fish. I have watched walleye & perch on my Vexilar shoot up 15' off bottom in 40' of water to hit a Chubby, so don't be shy to work them high. Big Pike have done the same deal and followed the Chubby up to the ice and then decide to smack it at the hole, even in 20' of water. You can force a bite by jigging them up, so give that a shot on lookers.

Jigging the 2'-4' off bottom range is often the best starting point when searching for active fish. A snap action can be the ticket or a 1-3 foot slow pumping jigging action that you fallow down on a semi tight line. The Chubby is slightly neutral buoyant and falls at a slower rate so watch for the big "Woof" on the fall. The Chubby Darter is a larger profile target so fish tend to see it and react to it at a greater distance.

There is no such thing as a miracle lure, but Chubbys are a blast to fish with and often very productive.

If your still hunting for your Chubby I see Scheels on 13th Av. in Fargo ND has a fresh shipment in of the baby chubbys (all patterns), and a few of the larger originals left in stock.

Get your Chubby, Fresh Chubby here, right out of the box.

Grab that Chubby while it's HOT!

They won't last long!

InLander try going to the Salmo web site listed above and then hit on the American flag, that will give you the English version.

From there you can hit on the banner to the left with the Chubby Darter designation at the bottom of the lure list.

This will pull up the page with the catalogue of patterns and color options available.

Hope that helps.

Or just try this.
