I,m heading to bay de noc on sunday. This is a spur of the moment trip and I need some advise on rigging up with lead. What lb. lead core and how many colors should I run. My trolling book says 18 lb lead core, Should I stick with that or should I try something differant. Thank you for any help with this question. Ryan Relien

Follow the book, don't try to reinvent the wheel, when you get comfortable with running leadcore then you can try different things. When you get up there, ask the guys on the water how they are running their leadcore. And be sure to use different lengths until you catch fish and then duplicate that presentation. Lead core can be deadly and is also a lot of work when it is cold.
Good Luck

18 is correct for lbdn. Three colors w/ a 50' lead seems to be the norm although some have been having success w/ 2 or 2 1/2 colors. Leadcore is the preferred daytime technique but I would suggest putting it away at night and longlining the reefs and shallow shorelines. If you need more specifics on location and lure sellection email me @ dskurulsky@yahoo.com.

3 colors of 18lb with a 50ft leader of 10lb mono is the norm at Little Bay and will work well with most shallow running baits (AJ's, Rouges, etc.). If you are using diving baits (DJ's, Deep Lil Rippers, Shad Raps, etc.) you will probably want less than 3 colors or you may opt for leadcore in 12 or 14lb test. I will be there this weekend also, so if I can help you out further let me know.
Fritz,
I set up the Daiwa SG27LC with 3/5 of a spool of 50 lb. mono backing(filler), then 400' of 12 lb. Sensithin, 3 colors of 18 lb. leadcore(90'), then a 35', 12 lb. Flourocarbon leader to a Berkley cross-lock snap. All reels are filled to match each other to allow duplication on any rod.
You can splice in only two, or one color if you have the reels, but we had no problem clipping the leadcore to the Roach boards. Fish in 25'-60' of water during the day and don't be afraid to fish the same deep areas at night....not all fish hit the reefs, but most of the boats do!! During the day, go slow and use AJ's, Deep Little Rippers, and Deep JR's.
If you do hit the reefs, fish 30'-60' back on mono with Rogues, Husky Jerks, and AJ's. It can be a frenzy in the shallows at night.
Good luck,
JB
