this one works for keeping your holes open in a permanent ice house while you are away, Buy about a 2 or 3 foot section of stove pipe the same size as the hole you drill. Solder a cover on one end. After you are done fishing and leaving your house push the pipe down the hole, cover down, and secure in place with a wire or bungy cord. When you return, remove the cord and light a small piece of newspaper and throw down the pipe. The heat will quickly melt the ice around the stove pipe and you will have an ice free hole with no drilling. WARNING: OFTEN THE STOVE PIPE WILL SHOOT UPWARDS WITH CONSIDERABLE FORCE, SO STAND CLEAR

Thats one of the reasons I love ice fishing! People come up with so many neat ideas, maybe its the cold, maybe its trying to keep the beer from freezing, I dont know!
:+
I like this idea!
It's simple, practical, it works, and it has the added bonus of being potentially dangerous, a real plus for the high testosterone types... lol

I take it that you must leave the door or windows open to clear out what smoke that should appear when the paper burns.
