Have had very good luck on 1/16 oz gold Gypsy King spoons and they are out of business. Any suggestions for small spoons for stream trout?

I used to catch alot af nice fish on a spoon called a Phoebe. It was a non symetrical minnow shaped spoon that had a great action in any current. You could fish it slow and let it wash into holes and under log jams where the slobs hang out.

I use spoons everyday on the water. I fish 13 - 15 tournaments a year and believe me when I say the BEST spoon on the market ( in my opinion ) is the RAC spoon. The colors the finish stays on and you can catch any fish that swims on them. They have trolling, casting and any type spoon you'd ever want to use. The e-mail address is racspoon@mni.net ask for Roy the owner, nicest man on the planet. You will not be disappointed. Tell him Hello for me.

I SEND AN E-MAIL TO THE E-MAIL ADDRESS YOU HAVE IN YOUR MESSAGE AND GOT "NO SUCH ADDRESS BACK". PLEASE POST THE CORRECT ADDRESS. I'M INTERESTED IN THE SPOONS YOU TALK ABOUT. I USE NEEDLE FISH AND HAVE GOOD LUCK ON THEM, BUT I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW MAGIC.

I agree with the Phoebe as a good stream trout spoon, but also look at the Thomas Bouyant spoon. They are one of the hottest items in the Rockies and in all the stores here. Not sure if they are carried by Cabela's or BPS.

Bill:
I guess I really don't recall who makes (or made) the Phoebe. I'm not sure I have seen them around for a while, but they may still be made. Otherwise, it might be an E-bay item. The company that makes the Thomas Buoyant also makes a lure called the Fighting Fish which looks just like the old Phoebe in shape and construction. I have one but have not used it so I can't say the action is identical. I have seen none of these in any of my catalogs. I'll see if I can get an address for Thomas when I'm in the tackle store.

I'M ALWAYS LOOKING FOR THE MAGIC LURE, BUT IT WILL PROBABLY BE HARD TO BEAT THE NEEDLE FISH.

Are you the Jensen in Luhr-Jensen? I own boatloads of Krocodile's and Needlefish. They work great trolled or with downriggers. I also use a great spoon made here in Utah called the Carter Spoon. I catch lots of trout and Kokanee on them too.

Bill:
Sorry to be so long in getting back to you. The Phoebe spoon is still available and is made by Acme Tackle, the same people who make the Kastmaster and Lil Cleo spoons. I saw a bunch of Phoebes in the tackle store today. You should be able to get them somewhere in your area if a store carries the other Acme products. Good luck.

STEVE,

THANKS I'LL CHECK THEM OUT. ARE YOU IN CWA?

Steve(CO)

Bill:
I assume by CWA you mean the Colorado Walleye Assoc. The answer is no, though I have thought about joining. Are you here in Colorado? The meetings are down in Berthoud which is a ways from Ft. Collins which has deterred me a bit. Plus, I don't fish tournaments. Add my memberships in groups like Trout Unlimited and Federation of Fly Fishers and I get overwhelmed sometimes.

STEVE,

I LIVE IN PUEBLO WEST. THE CLUB IS A VERY GOOD CLUB AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO FISH TOURNAMENTS TO BE ACTIVE. IF YOU FISH PUEBLO I MIGHT SEE YOU ON THE WATER SOME TIME.

I have fished Pueblo a couple of times and I'm sure I will do so again. Don't know about this year. Horsetooth (not right now, unfortunately) and Boyd have been my "home" waters. If you have trouble finding Phoebes down south, let me know. I could pick some up for you here and ship 'em down. They had them at Discount Fishing Tackle (I think that's the name) here in FtC. I know their main store is in Denver. If they have a store down your way, you might check them out.
