This is going to appear stupid, but I've only ice fished a handful of time as you know, but what exactly does a tip up do? Does it set the hook for you or just show you that you got a bite?

Troy, what colors for like jigging spoons and jigger shads have you found to be most successful for walleyes through the ice? Bright or dark, solid or metallic?

The tip up that I'm looking for is basically a rod holder with a flag that triggers when a fish strikes, you leave the bail open so the fish can run with the bait.I'm not much into dragging around a tip up set up.As for jigger shad the Perch color is a good one there is also one called Funky Trout that I had had good luck with up at Glendo.
