Just looking for impressions on Lake Kabetogama as a destination
in spring/summer. Also any recommendations on where to stay there ,looking for full service and northwoods setting, etc. Also open to any recommendations on other lakes in Northern Mn or the arrowhead area. Thanks.

I haven't been up there for a few years, but I went a couple times to the Ash River area but stayed at campgrounds. There are several nice places to stay there, and all seemed very northwoods like. Very nice people and fun places.

We fished the bay for crappies and hit the main lake for walleyes in the spring. We caught big crappies (one 17-incher), but not a ton of them, and tons of small eyes using jigs (rainbow colored) and minows.

You'll have fun, but make sure you wire your livewells shut at night. The otters do get into them. We had minnow heads and otter poop in the boat the first morn! ha! no kiddin!

Have fun!

I spend about 80 to 90 days a summer up at KAB. I can't say enough positive things about the area!!! The scenery is absolutely fantastic. I have a trailer at MOOSEHRN resort. We rent the spot by the season. This resort is very nice, they tailor to the family. I have also been to SANDY POINT. Gordon runs a great resort. Sandy Point is more of a full service location. I would recomend both of these over any other locations. The Ash River area is a lot more congested than the two that I have recomended!!! It is not for me. I hope you get a chance to go up to the area and find out just how special it is. Who knows maybe I'll see you on the water. Walleye and crappie fishing has been very good the last two years.

We used to fish the lake two years ago. We went for 7 years straight--walleye fishing started to tail off a bit and never did get into a large number of crappies. I liked the lake and the two resorts you mentioned i did hear good things about. We stayed right next to breezy point. We actually decided that if we were taking a week off to fish we may as well drive the extra mileage. Cant really say anything bad about Kab--beautiful lake--if your an explorer you can def. avoid the larger crowds of boats. gool luck to ya

Kabetogama is a nice lake. Many of our houseboat guests travel to that lake. We operate houseboats out of Crane Lake the Southern entry to the Voyagers National Park. Our guests travel from Crane Lake to Sandpoint to Namakan and also to Kabetogama beaching the houseboats at islands in the National Park. If you like to fish and enjoy the wilderness you will love our area.
