I drove a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer yesterday and was quite impressed with the power and roominess. Anyone have one? What is your experience? What about towing? Thanks!
Fred
I have 8,000 miles on mine and like it so far. My boat and trailer weigh about 4,000 - 4,500 lbs.(the weight is a guess but the boat alone is 3,100 lbs. dry, add a dual axle trailer, batteries, 55 gal. fuel, fishing stuff, etc.) and it pulls it easily with the tow package that comes standard. I got the 3.42 axle and have no problems towing. Gas mileage is about 17 around town, 20 highway, and about 12-13 towing the above trailer. No problems yet...this was a concern with a new model but it drives smooth and quiet and handles better than the standard Blazer. My longest trailer pull so far has been 6 hours and it handled well.
Hope this helps.

I have a GMC Envoy (same thing) and tow a 1950 Tyee. No problems at all. The only objection is the small gas tank, big deal I have to make one extra gas stop on a trip. Buy one you'll love it, 270 HP out of an inline 6, awesome. I also have the 3.42 rear end. There is enough leg room in the front seat for a very tall person or wife.

Great question Fred. Wife is looking for a truck and is interested in the Trailblazer/Envoy. I will be watching the responses also. Thanks. Didn't Envoy get an award SUV of the year or something??

I received a recall notice about 2 weeks ago on the problem with going into 4WD. I noticed the 4WD light on the knob go on a couple of times and then the "service 4WD" dash light came on. It would then go off a little ways down the road. It didn't feel like it was in 4WD, only the light was on. Whatever the problem, it doesn't bother me much so I plan to wait and see if there are any other recalls and will get them all done at one time.
I can't say I'm surprised about a recall. What new models have come out in the past 20 years that didn't have some sort of recall or two?
My last 3 SUV's were Jeep Cherokees, Grand and Sports, and it seems like I got a recall notice about every 6 months on those. But they were still good vehicles.
I do agree with Jim P, my only comment (minor complaint) is the small gas tank, about 19 gallons. But it seems the older I get, the more often I stop anyway.

Thanks for the input everyone. I did buy the Trailblazer, and I absolutely love it. Pulls the boat like a dream. Hardly knew it was back there. Got about 14 mpg with the boat and 19.5 without. That should improve once it's broken in more. The interior room is really surprising. I also was told yesterday that Chevy is going to add 12" to the length and a third seat starting next spring. Could make it an even better family vehicle.
