View Full Version : ice out walleyes on devils lake. please help.
planning a trip to devils lake just after ice out. if anyone could help by suggesting where to fish and where to stay it would be very helpful. thank you
Check out www.devilslakend.com for info. this is the chambers web site. Also checkout fishingbuddy.com for info on devils. Give Ed's baitshop a call for info. I would suggest fishing near the bridges where streams are flowing into the lake.

The ice is a lot thicker than normal this year, nearly 40 inches in some areas of the lake. So guessing when the ice will be off is fairly tough. A lot of fisherman stay at the Comfort Inn in Devils Lake. Manager Greg Otis goes out of his way to ensure that your stay is enjoyable, he is also in fairly close contact with Ed's Bait Shop which is a very valuable source for fishing information. Amazing numbers of big fish (7#-8# walleyes) are taken off shore by Channel A during this time. These fish should all be released, as this is usually a pre-spawn bite. Feel free to send me an e-mail if you have any further questions. Hope this helps.

Bring a good supply of Count Down Rap's (clown, Craw, B/Wt, shad, Y/Wt) and Lindy Ltl Joe snag proff jigs.
A lot of walleye will be in shallow in the timber sucking up warm water and bait. A good investmant is a ridged snag buster staff, the extendable style to retrieve cranks hung on the wood. It will pay for itself in a hurry!
