On Fishing the Midwest television this week, we will be on Upper Red Lake fishing northern pike with John Peterson. The pike were big, and action was fast once we found the fish. Upper Red Lake's walleye population has suffered in recent years, but the void left by the walleyes has been filled by pike and crappies. The walleyes are showing signs of rebounding as well.
In the second segment we will be with Rick Writz near Minocqua, Wisconsin chasing weedbed walleyes. It was August and hot when we joined Rick. Caught lots of nice walleyes throwing jigs to weed-beds in shallow water.
Check fishingthemidwest.com for a listing of times and stations. Weather caused a delay in tape arrival at some stations last week, including Des Moines and Fargo, so we could be a week behind in those markets.
Hi Bob, when are the shows covering fishing on the Mississippi River going to be on? I heard there will be three of them. Is that correct? If you are interested in filming or just fishing the Mississippi River this year a great guide to talk to is James Holst. He has a great web site at www.fishtheriver.com. Thanks, Bill

I really enjoyed the show on Walleyes in NE SD. I have been going to Mobridge for the last 4 years and am getting tired of the small size, was really impressed with the size you guys caught. Were you in the Waubay lake area? Keep up the good shows, Lowell
Thanks for the tip. The shows you are referring to (I'm assuming from the announcement at the bottom of the Mississippi River HQ home page on Sauger.com) were shot this year with Scott Golden and myself in Winona, handlining with Julia Davis in Red Wing, and fishing lower pool 4 and Pepin with a fantastic guide, Loren Waalkens, out of Lake City, MN. I think 2 of the three have already aired. I personally would like to see a show for next year on Loren's hot fly fishing smallmouth bite, talk about great Mississippi River action!
You can check out Loren's website, which is part of the Walleye Central Network, at:

hi bob
when are you going to do a show in the hayward area say middle eau clair or the chippewa flowage. they are both excellent lakes and i fish them quite often during the summer for muskies and walleyes.

Nate:
Good question! We have done a couple of shows in the Hayward area, but none recently. It's been at least two years since we made a show in the Hayward area. However, I spoke with a person from that area just a couple of days ago regarding maybe doing a show up there this year. If we do, I will be sure to post that information here.
Thanks for your interest.
