LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-01 AT 08:01AM (CST)[p]How well do bow mount Auto Pilot trolling motors systems work in rivers? Does the shifting current mess up there orientation and preformance?
Would a basic cable system be a better option?

I use an autopilot on the St.Louis river in Duluth. Would not be without one. Having to correct the direction is greatly reduced compared to a non-autopilot motoer. wouldn't be without it.

Your welcome Eddy. I wouldn't get a bow mount without an auto pilot on it. Makes life easier.

One thing I forgot to mention of the auto-pilot is that when I am down under the Bong bridge, the moter will turn on it's own. I would assume this is due to the compass in the unit being influenced by the metal of the bridge? Any thoughts on that?

Eddy...everybody uses them on their jet boats out west, here. Gives you a chance to net a fish or re-tie .
There are a couple places in these canyons out here, where the auto-pilot gets a mind of its own due to radio transmitters in the vicinity, at which point you just turn off the auto-pilot part and steer with your foot....manually.
