View Full Version : tips for kabetogama/namaken
Got any tips for fishing Kabetogama and Namaken. Plan on fishing these lakes once each in June, July and August. Especially concerned about where not to go, rocks, logs etc., a few places to catch fish wouldn't be bad either. will be in a tent, any campsites you would recommend.
Nice site guys. First time poster.
Need more details. What kind of boat (meaning runabout or...) and how far are you willing to travel? Makes a big difference... about 80-100 miles worth. What kind of presentation are you most likely to use? Which ramp? Rocks everywhere, but channel is well marked, depending on where you launch from.
Which date on which lake? The reason I ask is that these two lakes are really two completely different types of lakes.
I can recommend launching at the ramp next to the Ash River mouth, this will give you access to both lakes without too much traveling. Camp sites? Depends if you can get one before anyone else. If you have enough hp, you'll be able to find a camp site, the further you are from a ramp... the better the odds. A good map would be highly reccommended. If you have the money, a guide is also highly reccommended. They'll be able to give you hands on advice as far as traveling is concerned and will also be able to direct you to some camp sites. I should be able to give you a few more details as time allows with a little more information. (I lived up there for four years.)
Mike
I'm with Mike on this one. These two lakes can be a lot different. Last year Kabetogama was good through about the first week in July, after that I fished Namakan until about the second week of September. Kabetogama turned back on and I fished there until we closed up for the season.
I agree with Mike also when he recomended that you hire a guide. I did this the first few years when I started fishing these lakes. It was really worth while. I hated to spend the money at first, but it has been one of the smartest things that I have done. ( consider it an investment in yourself ) If you can hire the guide early in your trip, you can duplicate the patterns and locations for rest of your trip! Have fun!!!!
