In most areas on Fishing the Midwest this week we will be on West Lake Okoboji in northwest Iowa. We will be dropshotting with Barry Day. Dropshotting is a relatively new technique that was developed for bass in clear water, but it works very well on most other species of fish also. On the day we taped this show, fishing via more traditional means was tough, but we were able to take 35-40 fish by dropshotting.

Due to delays in delivering tapes in some markets because of weather, we are behind a week or two on some shows. Check the fishingthemidwest.com website and look under T.V. Show for listings and markets.

Bob,
Great job on the show today! Drop shotting is something I haven't tried yet, but plan on doing so sometime this year. It looks very effective.
Barry Day did a great job of explaining the technique. Again, thanks for the show!

Bob, good show today with Barry Day. Plan on doing some drop-shot fishing for smallies in the BWCA this summer. Did Barry say this could work with live bait as well as plastic????

Would drop shotting also work with a jig without the long trailer worm, or would that be too close to the line to work well?

Ron:

Would you be rigging the jig where the shot goes, or where the hook goes? If where the hook goes, I think it would be to close to the line, and would also impair the action of the plastic.

There is a rig called the Dubuque Rig that employs a three way swivel, a jig, and a hook or floater. The jig goes to the bottom from the 3-way, the floater/hook goes out the back. It is primarily a walleye rig. Very effective in some situations.
