I'm trying this again. I'm looking for river fishing in the western half of Iowa for walleye or sauger. I'm looking for places like Linn Grove on the Little Sioux, which has a small diverson dam. I would really appreciate some information. I have a canoe, boat, waders, and would love to use them this weekend. Thanks for any informatio. shanna808@hotmail.com

Shanna, were still plenty froze up in the areas you are talking about. We had a major thaw occur today, but that is the first real thaw we have had all season. I think it is still too early.

Thanks for the reply. When things do start, where are some general areas to fish? Thanks for any information. Again I'm interested in smaller rivers, like the little sioux.

Shanna, The Little Sioux, and the Des Moines are both great spots for spring eyes. Spencer bridges give up quite a few nice fish, along with the river below Estherville. Some of the best walleye fishing I have ever had, occurred on the Little Sioux, below Milford a ways back in 1990. There was no other word, except awesome. It has tailed off considerably since then, but so have my efforts. There should be fish all along the LS this spring..

Thanks again.. Went to Gavins Pt. on the Missouri R. by Yankton SD. There were 30 boats and I didn't see a single walleye or sauger. Just looking for some different options. Thanks for any future help. Information and experience is everything.

I don't know how far west you are talking, but Humboldt has the east and west branch of the Des Moines River. Early spring, just before ice out, has produced some really nice fish below the dam in Humboldt, the dam in Dakota City and out at the power plant.

I have seen some advid fishermen, wade across the river below the dam at Humboldt to the south end of the dam. (When the river has settled back to normal, after the spring thaw), and they seemed to do quite well. Few people ever seem courageous, enough to wade over there to fish. But once you find the right underwater path, they seem to do well!

Gonna check out the LS tomorrow. I dont think I'll fish yet, but will see how it is flowing.

Is there any river fishing for walleye closer to Sioux City/Onawa area. I fish where the Little Sioux comes in the Missouri. Never have fished where the Big Sioux comes in at Sioux City. Any other area??? Thanks for all replies!!!
