What is the best color? Black will help you see down the hole better, but will also make it harder to light at night. What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Flat black is the way to go. Use a flashlight for light and a Coleman BlackCat Heater (Doesn't Give Off Any Light!). Maybe install a window with a flip cover for light. This is the way I am set up for spearing northerns. The large spearing hole also makes jigging in 10' to 15' of water really exciting because you can see the fish.

Are you talking about a spear house or regular ice fishing house???

If the first, then black would be best. However, if the latter, then brighter is better. I hate trying to see in the dark for things like my coffee cup or pliers or tieing a knot. I have big windows and white interior. Why do you need to see down the hole anyway? If the fish are biting, bring them up! If not, move. ;-)

Aqua man I got the "stuff"for siding a shanty. For the last few years. I have been using corrugated gray plastic. Its light holds air and is waterproof. Solarium transparency almost. Guys you would not beleive how warm a shanty can get by solar as when the heatload is you and the inside of the shanty, floor, coats, etc. Most of the heatload is now on the interior! Not radiating up the sides and blowing away. You can't see into it but you can where your polarizers inside, which is nice when its door bursting time! Usaully I do paint the interior and exterior black to get it dark. They use the stuff to line car trunks carpet, and back retail store shelves. The 4x8 sheets are real easy to work with and bend. My last shanty 6.5 tall by 4x7 weighed 80 pounds with a plywood floor (40lbs). Loaded it by myself into a pickup bed and out of. I agree that if your not sight fishing the light is of no concern, and its a lot easier on the eyes coming out of it. Dark has its days for sure though, but walleyes you can see can see you as well and those babies have eyes for movement.

It will be a fishing shack. I agree- what's the point of looking down the hole? I have an Aqua-Vu and I am working on getting a Vexilar. What better pair of eyes are there to see under the ice with? A light colored interior would make everything easier. Thanks guys.
