Unfortunately - it is the way of the Walleye!!!

This is part of the intrigue of fishing for them.

Look at the post "mystique" ON THIS SIGHT and read the threads. That will give you a good insight to our sport.

Once one "gets past" fishing for bass and other species, the same way - all of the time, one wants something challanging - this is where the Walleye becomes the Everest of rock climbers.

The intrigue is to use your brain to find the way to get them to bite. That is why you see so many methodologies on this sight.

Better fishin' tomorrow!!!!

Another thought -

If you should decide to try your hand at this in the future, and if you can afford it - try a 1/2 day or full day charter and see how the charters do it. This info could be invaluable to you and your boys and save the rest of your trip.

If you can't swing the money (and, I know, how expensive it is to take family trips) try meeting up with some of the folks that are on this sight at your ramp or on the water. I am sure there are a few souls willing to help and show a "newvee" how we work hard to not catch Walleyes, too. (joke?)! I'd volunteer but I live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Besides, the folks on this sight seem to have alot more experience than I.

WHOA!!! Sorry about the threads, fish bait. I thought you were new to the sport and Erie. I confused you with another post on the sight a month or so ago that was trying Walleye fishing and Lake Erie for the first time - period.

Anyone for some of this egg I'm wearing???

You say you marked a lot of fish? Keep in mind that there are many species of fish down there, not just walleye. As Al Linder found out on one of his shows (dealing with underwater cameras), what he thought were walleye stacked, or even pike, turned out to be carp when viewed with the camera. You may have marked fish but they may not have been walleye.

I would not say you did anything wrong, except come the Erie at the wrong time. The past two to three weeks have been very tough. LOTS of top Erie fisherman are coming in with few or no fish. Lots of us "Old Timers" are scratching our heads and hoping thing will get better when the water warms up a little.

Hello Fish Bate:

I just read an article in the in-sider that sounds like it could relate to your trip. This guy in the article marked tons of fish also on Lake Erie by Port Clinton during the day, but couldn't catch squat, they tried everything in the book. Their last resort was to try it at night.

The article is in the Walleye In-sider, April 2000 issue, page 78. "Bladebaits On The Great Lakes At Night"

Good Fishing!
