I am going up to Long Lake during Labor Day weekend and was wondering if someone has any tips for fishing this lake

Tahoe, I will be there a week after you. I wish someone would respond! :) Have you fished there before, are you fishing the south end, main lake area?

hawghunter is right on for catching eyes on long lake. Most of them are on the weed edges. I've always done best at dusk for the big ones. So far this year I've done the best trolling spinner rigs about as close to the weeds as I can get. I put my grandfather on a thirty incher on spinners earlier this summer. The walleyes seem to be in small packs just cruising up and down the weededge so you will probably catch two or three in one area and then they will quite biting. The secret is to keep moving. Another option that has worked well for me is slip bobbering on the weededges. This usually works the best at dusk, but ive often done quite well during the day too. If all else fails try casting small minnowbaits like a #11 or #13 floating rapala or husky jerk over the tops of the weeds at night. My basic strategy is to slip bobber and troll spinner during the day then run run spinners at dusk, and finally cast raps over the weeds after dark. There are more big walleyes in the lake than most people think. Just last week my brother lost a walleye that would easily clear 10 lbs. while fishing with a clown husky jerk for bass. If the walleyes aren't cooperating the crappie bite was really on last week. fish about any cover about 10 to 16 feet deep with crappie minnows on small jigs(we were also catching walleyes doing this too). Labor day weekend usually has a lot of boat traffic, so if there is too many boats try the north end of the lake. There is generally a lot less traffic there. Good Luck!

By the way, keep your aluminum cans and throw them into the trailer across the street from sweetwater inn, the money raised from it goes into stocking walleyes into the lake. Thanks.
