Hi.. My wife's family has a cottage home on Clear lake IA. For vacation she wants to go there around early Oct. I wanted to go to Lake of the Woods. But I have heard the fishing is pretty good on Clear Lake. So anyway I was wondering if I could get some info on what to expect for that time of year and where to fish for eyes etc. Also what/which is the best map to buy for Clear Lake? Also what other options do I have around that area?
Thanks

I live at Clear Lake but I'm a novice at the lake thing. The talk is that walleyes should be good then. I was out Sunday and Monday and caught zero. Water temp was 70F to 72F. No one had any luck, that I talked to, and the recreational traffic was high (one guy drinking coffee darn-near rammed me). Maybe they'll put their toys away this week. You can get good maps of the lake from the Lake Sports Shop in the 1200 block of South Shore Drive,(on the east side), and even the IA DNR site. Lake Sports Shop and Dome Bait and Tackle can both give you good advice on the fishing. Also, on Monday, guys were catching some silver bass by the island. The yellow bass are just starting to bite also.

E-mail me if you need too.

Was on Clear Lake for the Labor Day weekend. First trip to the lake, but was impressed. Fishing was not the best, but we did manage a few walleye. Got most on chatruse jigs tipped with minnow. Best luck was on the south side drifting around the island of off Grand View Point. Plan on going back again in early to mid October. Have a map from Fishing Hot Spots out of Rhinelander, Wis., Was really happy with it. Best of luck
