Fished on Lake Mille Lacs Monday and Tuesday of this week. Mille Lacs is a tremendous walleye fishery, one that I always enjoy fishing because of the variety of effective techniques, and the presence of lots of big walleyes, smallmouth, muskies, and pike.

Fished with Tim Chapman, owner of Scenic Bay Resort in Isle. Tim also guides and runs a launch service on Mille Lacs. We pulled crankbaits and drifted with spinners. Spinners in the 29-32 foot depths were best. Saw lots of walleyes on the sonar, and, as long as the wind blew, we were able to catch them. If you're going to be on Mille Lacs and fishing for the deep fish, try Rainbow Spinners with holographic blades. Try them behind Rock-Runner Bottom Bouncers in the 2 ounce range. Incidentally, most of the walleyes we caught were in the slot.

Tim says the October full moon period could be tremendous for walleyes, but don't forget about the other species that Mille Lacs offers.

For more info on the tremendous fishing that Mille Lacs offers, visit the scenicbay.com or millelacs.com websites, or call Tim Chapman at 320-676-3274, or toll free for Mille Lacs Tourism-1-888-350-2692. Mille Lacs in the next several weeks offers one of the best opportunities for a trophy walleye. Be there if you can.

Bob were you out on the flats or fishing drops from shoreline in that range. I might try it this weekend hope to see other people on the water and good luck.
Minnows, leeches, or crawlers???

Thanks for the info

Pitts:

We were 3-4 miles off-shore, south end, using crawlers. Could see the fish on the sonar. If we didn't see fish, we didn't drop a line. Rainbow Spinners, green or chartreuse blade, crawlers. 29-33 feet of water. Let us know how you do if you go.

Best Fishes,

Bob my ISP was down this morning before I went so I did not get your message in time but thanks anyway.
It was pretty rough and wet so we opted to slip bobber for most of the day and failed to do well should have pulled crawlers on spinners but the kids were cold and wet and did not want to so I let them talk me out of it. They like to bobber fish???
We did manage a 22" and 2 perch and 2 rockbass and a big 10# plus slimer breakoff for a little excitement. I went fairly late thinking I would wait the rain out but no luck on that only fished 5 hours. We had an adventures trip because the water was quite big for about 1/2 the time out I honestly can say I launched the boat off a 6'wave at 10 mph WOW I thought I was never coming down.
It was good experience for me and the kids and the 14 yr old loaded in 3' waves at the launch which he thought he was not good enough to do.
PS. We fished Garrison Reef, Myr mar reef and flat and 2 other small flats on the N end. All the charters were on the N shore breakline which we also tried in a couple different spots.

Thanks so much for your time and we love your show.
