Walleyes on West Okoboji...14' to 60' depending on the day. Early morning and evening best. Deep fish are being taken with Roach Rigs and 4 oz Bottom Bouncers with large chubs. Some days, a Gumdrop floater with a 5' leader and crawler will catch fish. If using crankbaits, try the Diving Frenzy with a 4 oz Offshore snap weight. Shallower fish can be caught using a 1/2 oz sinker and Roach Rig or a Fireball jig and minnow. It is a slow bite but the fish are a nice size. There is also a night bite at the bridges or off docks. Use a 3 inch Power grub and 1/8 oz jighead. You can also use a shallow running crankbait.
East Okoboji is producing some eating size walleye, 14 to 18". A Roach Rig or Fireball jig tipped with a minnow will catch walleyes during their daytime bites. Depth will run 7 to 14 feet.
Big Spirit Lake is fair for the walleyes in the evening. Favorite spots are the Foot Bridge, Tube, or Buffalo Run areas. Boat fisherman are pulling diving minnow Frenzies in 16 to 20 foot of water in the evenings. Off shore Planer boards and a small flashing light that clips to the flag of the board lets you fish in the dark hours.
Not much in the perch fishing to report. Some in the 7 to 8 inch size can be taken both on West Okoboji and Big Spirit. The best perch fishing is in Waubay Lake in South Dakota at this time.
Keep a tight line and may your aim be straight.
