I am from Indiana. Me and some of my buddies have went to Minnesota the past two years on a fishing trip for one week. The first year we went to Eli, and fished at Farm Lake, and that chain. This past year we went to Kabetogama. We all liked Kab, but did not like the slot limit. Also the resort we stayed at was a dump. (Red Pine Resort). We are currently starting to plan a trip for the first or second week of June in 2001. We are open to suggestions of where to go. Minnesota or Canada. Walleye is our preferred catch, but we also enjoy smallmouth, northern, and perch. We are trying to keep the price within reason, because we don't have the money to take expensive vacation, we just care about some good fishing. We want to go somewhere we can drive to, and not a fly-in. Due to cost. I would apprecaite any advice you could give on where to go. Thank YOu

My buddies and I stayed at Spring Bay Resort on Lake Vermillion, MN for years. Great people, accomodations, price, etc.. Lake is similar to Kab., excellent walleye/smallmouth/northerns. If you go later May, you'll get into huge crappies.

There are lots of very good places to fish for walleyes in Minnesota. The best lakes will often be those with slot limits or some sort of progressive regulation. Three of my favorites are Mille Lacs, Leech, and Winnie. Walleye action can be fantastic, and there are lots of smaller lakes to explore when you get the urge. The largemouth bass potential in these areas is fantastic as well.

There are plenty of websites for all of these areas.

Canada has some tremendous fishing, but you're driving by a lot of outstanding fishing as you travel there.

Rainy Lake is also a winner. Great walleyes, smallies, used to be good crappies, but I haven't done them for awhile.

Good luck. Let us know where you decide to go.

You might want to try South Dakota for walleyes. Lake Oahe has tons of walleyes. They mostly 14 to 18 inch fish. Next year the limit will be ten fish a day 30 in possesion. Also can catch smallmouth bass, white bass, and northern pike. Not many resorts that have cabins for rent on the lake, But alot of Motels in Pierre. I would suggest getting a guide for the first day. Here is a we site for a guide http://www.oahewalleye.com/

The license to fish Oahe is reduced to $20 to fish lake Oahe only. Just another option to think about.
