Wading fisherman are taking good numbers of walleyes at night. The water is cold so get a good set of waders like Lacrosse's Insulator II's. This wader has room for you to add extra clothes. Several small Plano Stowaway Tackle Boxes is about all you need to keep your lures in. In one box put your jig heads and power grubs and in the other add a half dozen crankbaits. Berkley also makes a tackle pac that goes around your waist and works great.
Walleyes are being taken on a regular basis in the evening hours wading off the points and bridges. Power grubs and crankbaits are good choices.
Daytime walleyes are still going on East Okoboji. Use a Caps Rock a roo hair jig or Fireball jig and minnow.
The Little Sioux River from Milford to below Peterson is producing nice walleyes. Try casting white power grubs or soaking a chub on a Lindy Rig.
A pretty good perch bite has started on Big Spirit Lake. 14' of water, Buckshot Rattle Spoons tipped with a minnow head, or a slip bobber and live minnow. The famous white and yellow Minnie Jig is great tipped with a wax worm or whigglers. Most perch will run 8 inches in size.
Canada goose hunting remains good. But only a small trickle of northern Mallards are arriving into our sloughs and smaller lakes.
Keep a tight line and may your aim be straight. Jim McDonnell is a full time fishing guide on the Iowa Great Lakes. 712 933-5532.
