As an angler who travels a lot and spends lots of time eating in restaurants, I've got a few favorites across the Midwest. Would be interested in hearing of other places that I should be sure to try.
Here are some of my favorites.

In Osh Kosh WI this summer we had supper at Friar Tucks. Absolutely great sandwiches. It's pretty close to the AmericInn in Osh Kosh.

The Buck Inn in Escanaba MI used to be a favorite. Haven't been there for a year or two, but it always used to be great. So good that Gary Roach and Mark Martin and a video production crew left me there one night, but that's another story.

The Other Place in Clear Lake IA has great pizza and a big parking lot for trailers.

Ge-Jo's in Clear Lake IA is very good also, for Italian. Try the canoli.

Tweeter's in the Iowa Great Lakes. Food is very good and the atmosphere is great. Full of Iowa Hawkeye memorabalia.

I will add others as I think of them. Looking forward to hearing of other places to be sure to try.

Bob,

Here is a couple recent finds close to your house or on your way home.

Belmond, IA, "Eli's on the River", shrimp prepared 7 ways, fish specials on the weekend, and lobster.

Osage, IA, "Schub's" ( the old Cedar Valley Supper Club), a smoke-house menu; steaks, chops, ribs, salmon, and these really nice gulf shrimp. All meals served with cornbread. Friday and Saturday night, smoked prime rib, excellant.

Bob if you are ever traveling nort on I-35 in Minnesota, stop in Pine City. Right at exit 169 is a great place for breakfast called Grizzleys. We always stop there on the way to Kabetogama each year.

Hello Bob: Just per chance if you miss Grizzley's in pine, try "Peggy's Willow River Cafe", of course in Willow River. Great food and the owners are always there. Peggy is a knockout too, it's worth the stop. If at Wheelers Point, a must is "Riverbend Resort". Excellant food any time of the day. Ask Curt Q, he will endorse them too. Breakfast is fine, but the Pork Chops at dinner, non better. If you partake, the bar serves a good drink and the prices a very reasonable. Well thats my two cents worth. Maybe this year you can do LOTW, I got your E that you couldn't make it last year. If you do, let us know, we would like to see you up there, if not for Walleye, maybe Crappies at Red, it's only 40 minutes south of Baudette. How about both???? Good luck FILMING THIS YEAR....Kaz

If you are up at Pine Falls fishing Green Backs ya gotta have breakfast at the Broadlands Cafe. It is owned by Kim & Laurie Wilson and is just across the dam. For $4 you get 4 sausage links, 2 eggs, hash brows & toast. We always end up gaining a few pounds while up there.

I live in rural MN so my places are off the map but if you stop in any town SW MN, they are all well known. None of these places have pasta, linguini, chicken breast or any of that other trendy stuff, this is meat and potato country. The Bergen Bar on Friday nights has a great prime rib for $12, they still have a 3.2 liquor license where you bring your own bottle and buy set-ups, get there early cause the place only holds about 30 people and when the prime rib is gone, thats it. Paradise bowling alley in Heron Lake, Mn is the only bowling alley that I know that has lobster on the menu. All food good. Then there is the Kinbrae steak house, this village has 5 houses and the Kinbrae steak house that's it. The owner raises his own black angus and are killed and federal inspected and then brought back to his place where he processes and ages the meat. He even has a fresh meat counter in the restaurant so you can buy the steak you just ate and take one home. The place is big, but around holidays and weekends call before you go.
