Here in western Minnesota, two days of heavy winds and temperatures near 40-degrees have deteriorated ice conditions on many lakes. I went for a drive yesterday and saw open water on many of the large lakes. Also, I heard reports of at least two lakes that had ice earlier in the week opening up again. One lake that I fish a great deal, had an area of 6-inches of ice on Thursday and by Saturday fish houses were breaking through the ice! While there are still small lakes with ice, I have decided to curtail my fishing until we get better conditions and would advise others to be very careful! This has been a very strange year for us as far as ice conditions, hopefully we'll get some cold weather, but who knows at this point.
