I JUST GOT A NEW TRUCK WITH THE 6.6 TURBO DIESEL V8. AND LOOKING FOR THE BEST OIL TO USE IN IT. I ALWAYS CHANGE MY OWN OIL
DURAMAX, There's only one oil for diesels-RotellaT! Just go to a truck-stop and ask 10 truckers. Russell
I also recently purchased a 01 duramax in a Sierra. I'm also in the auto repair business.I use nothing but full synthenic oil. Awesome pulling truck!!

Been running diesels since the mid 80's. Have always used Shell Rotella or Mobil Delvac 1300 Super. Both are rated to run in any rig.
Always have had trouble finding 10W30 for January/February, finding it cheap, that is.
The Delvac 1 gallon bottles sure are neat to handle, they beat the stoneage Rotella (anti-freeze style) design. Be sure to buy a good filter too, I have always used WIX.
The Duramax sounds like a great motor. If they put it in a Suburban or Yukon XL I would have bought one this past summer. Bought a PowerStroke Excursion instead. Very happy with it so far, been getting mileage in the high teens while towing my 17' Sylvan.
Welcome to the diesel world, you'll never go back to gas!
Did you get the Allison tranny? 4x4? What gear ratio?
