The cold nasty weather we have been experiencing has cooled off the water enough to slow fishing down. But as soon as we get some warm weather going again, it will pick up.
Large bullheads are biting at the grade on Big Spirit Lake. Over a pound are taken on most warm sunny days. Of course, nite crawlers are the preferred bait. Some days fish the crawler on the bottom and on other days, sudpend the bait with a bobber.
Some nice crappies, bluegill and perch can be taken on the grade and Templar Park areas. Small Gypsi and Firefly jigs tipped with a whiggler or a piece of Berkleys micro power crawler work well. When the fish are really active you probably won't have to tip at all, but let the fish decide.
West Okoboji's canal area in Millers Bay is a good choice for bluegill and crappie. Again use small jigs with a dime size bobber.
Minnewasta and Upper Gar are producing some nice bluegill and crappie, they will usually be located off the rocky shore or next to wood docks.
Five Island Lake, Lost Island and Elk Lake are producing walleye at times. Crankbaits and 3" Power grubs are not.
Keep a tight line and may your aim be straight.
