Hi, I'm going up to Big Arb. on the 27th for a week with my wife, mom, and dad. My dad loves to catch walleye, but he is one of those guys on the In-Fisherman commercial that says "That looks like a good place over there." I'm not much of a walleye fisherman living in Indiana. So I thought I would ask you guys for some help. Any info you can give on walleyes this time of year, and any tips on Big Arb would be greatly appriciated. Thanks, Chuck.

Chuck, although charter fishing here on Little Bay de Noc for a good number of years now Big Arbor Vitae lake in Vilas County was a lake I was brought up on and for over 20 years guided this lake along with many others in both Vilas and Oneida Counties.
Walleye spots and here are a few:
1)the rock piles over on the north end of the bay, here are some big rocks that hold summertime fish, tossing jigs, live-bait rigs and a favorite of mine slip-floats fished with leeches.
2) the center bar area which is the middle of the lake, good weedbeds and sandy areas hold summertime fish
3) the western shoreline holds lots of gravel and rock along with vegatation and snags holding fish,
4) lot's of good cabbage and coontail weedbeds should be fished on this lake and holds good numbers of walleye,
although you'll find a lot of smaller fish you should be able to catch fish, work the shorelines and weedbeds where winds are blowing in and move around covering spots, with only a 1000 acres of water you'll be able to move around and should catch some fish.
Tackle choices and I'd have redtail chubs (medium to small size), crawlers and leeches, also some plastic assortments (Berkley Power Baits; grubs, bungee 4 inch worms, etc.)
casting crankbaits over and along the weedbeds can be effective also, beware of those muskies out there though as they can give you a fun battle!
Before your trip pick up a good "fishing hot spots" map. Lot's of this structure I've mentioned will easily be seen.
If you've got any questions feel free to getting back to me with an email,

Thanks a bunch Capt. Marty. I was begining to think I wasn't going to be able to find any info on Big Arb's walleye. I will be spending alot of time muskie fishing also. All of the spots you mentioned were also mentioned in the Wis. Top Muskie Lakes book I picked up as spots for muskie. Thanks again for the tips, I'll let you know how we do, Chuck.

Hey Chuck, great info here for you. The only thing I would add is I have had best luck with blue and pink anything.
Stay safe on the water!
