I never know what to get. She never used what I bought her last year. Russell

If your wife was like mine, she'll just tell you. Mine did a couple weeks ago. Her list was only five things ranging from a 9" fry pan to a set of diamond earrings with a necklace.

One thing you can do is a gift certificate to her favor clothing store, she can get what she wants or needs. But then again, that sometimes will back-fire because what she will pick out "really didn't come from you".

I better stop, the emotions are starting to stir; what I mean is, how she explained to me how I went wrong.

Don't buy her something that you will eventually use; i.e. fishing equipment, lawn mower, snow blower, boat; that REALLY upsets a woman.

GOOD LUCK!

Paul,
What gives with the "no fishing stuff for the wife"? First thing on my wife's list was a Shimano symetre on a 722 G Loomis(Glx, of course.) Guess I'm just lucky, but there are an awful lot of women who love to fish out there. How about it ladies, lets hear from you!

Jon,

Let me explain. Many years ago, I bought a second garden tractor to take care of her parent's acreage. The day before Mother's Day I pick-up a new mower deck for it because I bought it without the deck. She came into the garage has I was putting it on and she asked what it was. I simply replied "it's your Mother's Day present" and she was TICKED. It over-shadowed the flowers I had sent to her place of work. I still hear about it.

I did buy a Crestline Bantam baitcaster for her to use this past year but of course her reply was "you'll use it all the time" which I don't, but if she's along, she takes my Shimano 1000RG. Guess I don't blame her.

Boy this year it is a tough decision. The weather is hot one and windy one day and cold enough to snow the next,so I can't decide between a snow shovel or a leaf rake.I know what your thinking,"why don't I break down and get her both?"Well, I thought of that, but didn't want to spoil her ya know.Decisions, decisions decisions. What's a guy to do?

This is an easy one for me - this year I got her a dust pan. Last year I got her the broom but she's had to sweep everything into her hands all year long - she'll be delighted with the dust pan

i made the mistake of getting my wife a 200.00 fishing rod and reel for mothers day and took her to the lake, bought a small bbq grill and cooked her a porterhouse steak dinner on the shore and she just didnt app that fishing pole, im not married anymore so ya can see that, that was,nt the brightest idea i ever had, i have caught a lot of fish on the fishing rig though. guess some women just dont like to fish. next one will !!

When we get a catalog from Eddie Bauer or Lands end or something, I let her look through them and pick a bunch of stuff out. Then I go online, go to Walleye Central, look through the messages for a while, then go to one of the sites that she wants something from, buy it, go back to Walleye Central, repeat the process until I'm done! That way she cant complain about me being online all the time, either!!!:)

I've found that jewelry always works; it is always in fashion, they always "use" it, they can talk about it with their friends, they never get tired of it, and it gets me out of more trouble than I can describe on a family website. Remember, think small stones and total carat weight:-) This year its rubies for her and a planer mast system for me!

You guys should pay attention to Crest Hawk and Perch jerker's posts.
Their wisdom just might keep some of you out of trouble during the holidays. I like my carats small and preferably set in gold :-) Happy
holidays, boys.

Jewelery always works for me. My favorite are saphires.

Although, the best present my hubby ever got me was a year's worth of a cleaning lady. She comes once a month for $60, dusts, does the floors, bathrooms etc. It's good for him too because we have more time to play & fish!

I'm smiling as I read this 'cause I do the same thing for my wife and she LOVES it! I ALWAYS buy a unique piece of jewelry for her that she knows nothing about, too.

It works the other way as well! Especially for me because, "We don't know what to get you"! So, I mark up catalogs and any of the items are fair game. I get things I REALLY want and it makes life easier for everyone else. Guess what - My sons now do the same thing!! They're 30 and 26, respectively. Neat!!

Considering what we pay to get outside and enjoy ourselves with our toys, jewelry is an easy pacifier. This year it's diamond earrings to go with last years diamond necklace. Just picked them up today, she'll be quite pleased.

For these simple jewels I get away with slipping out of bed at 3:30 am and have the dog go wild when he sees me pick up anything with camo on it. One of the four letter words that is not allowed at my house is "DUCK", speak that word and it's lab bouncing off every wall in the house. For a 12 year old dog, he still get's crazy over that word. He's a good boy though, he never get's crazy over fishing and let's me slide out undetected during fishing season, just keep the camo in the car.

Yeah, jewels are the ticket.

Where have you been hiding, guy?

Hi Ranger,
Since Sept. been hunting mainly. Waterfowling and just finished deer hunting, except for black powder, which is a little more than a week away. Time to think eyes again.

Here in SW Michigan it's been warm, so no ice yet. I'll probably head over to Saginaw to give the Tittabawasee a try this weekend(boat).

My wife asked me what I want for Christmas and I said: "money, so I can buy a portable ice shanty." She then took a glance outside and said: "Why?" It was a nice 55 degree day. I just gulped and reminded her about last December and how we set records in the snow department and how I froze my butt off sitting on my little icing pal. She remembered and gave me the green light for the purchase, whoa close one on that!

Working alot(thankful for that), and just plain ole busy. My dad took a fall and broke his heel, so been helping him and my mom get squared away before winter. Surgery went well for the tough old vet and now I try and give my mom a break so she can get out and do some shopping etc.

Lifes great though, pity the guy out there who doesn't have family and friends. Feels real good to give back to someone who gave me so much.

I've bought my wife all kinds of goodies a lot of them long forgotten. My wife likes back rubs because she has slight back problems and last year I made a coupon book of 15 for ten minute backrubs redeemable anytime. In the middle of one of those rubs I popped the question.........She said yes to a new Lund Boat:)

Jeesh, you guys are giving some nice stuff. I guess I better rethink the 5 buckle galoshes and the new oven mitts huh?

Walizz,

I get a sense that this is a "rich persons" site. My wife should join it (she wants a new pearl set and a set of diamond earrings with a necklace).

Go with 4-buckles verses the 5's; 5's may ride too high up on her calves. Do you know of any place you and I could get a volume discount on the oven mitts?

Jewelry works for me. I bought 2 extra wedding band sets (we both wear 3 wedding bands now). The theory is that when each of our daughters get married, we can give them a complete wedding band set from the 2 of us. That one still scores me points to this day.

Another year, I did a mother daughter ring... all 3 of their birthstones in one ring. Another was birthstone earrings.

This year, I might do the diamond upgrade for the engagement ring or maybe a pearl necklace....

Thanx Ness! See what you started. Sounds like a lot less boat gas to me.:'( I bet its Jewels for Juls also. :-) Guess I'll have to rethink this situation out. Do you think it would help a person get some Guidewear? :-) To all, Happy Holidays! Russell

A rich person's site????? I can't resist responding to this one. You're way off base with that comment. I've been hanging around here long enough to be able to say that the net worth of the people that visit here is very varied. Rich man, poor man, beggar man.... Besides, it's only a few extra zero's :-)
As far as your dilemma with your wife, the solution is simple. Buy either the earrings or the necklace and just tell her that you wanted to buy her the best that you could afford so you're going to wait and buy the other part for either her birthday or next Christmas. (Personally, I wouldn't want really expensive diamond earrings. I lose earrings like you wouldn't believe.) Good Luck!
Jewels for Juls...???? That's a bad one, 205!

Nope, sorry! No Juls doesn't want jewels, Juls wants a year's worth of Good Luck!! ;-)

Have a safe and Happy Holiday everyone!

How about a weekend trip to a B&B that has a lot of pleasant little surprises built into the trip. Anything that shows planning will scores big.

It wouldn't have to be some place you as a guy would feel automatically uncomfortable at, like a Martha Stewert club house for instance, just a comfortable place that you and she can enjoy with a heavy dose of pampering for her.

A post holiday style stress reliever that she has no need to do anything but relax would be the plan.

Then on the drive home gently spring that Canadian fly in trip on her you were planing for 2002.

Do gold and silver plated Williams Wobblers sort of count like jewelry?

I asked her, so she suggested I pay her credit card bill! (GULP) Next year I'm not going to ask. But then, she did talk me into spending about a third more for the new rig than what I started out to buy!! She was right too. (Good thing she never reads this board, one should never put that in writing)
