Bob,

Watched your show on "snap-jigging" for walleye on Winnie. I'm not quite certain I understand how that's done. Were you forward trolling with the large engine and merely "snapping" the jig forward every once-in-awhile? I think Mr. Hunter said he trolled randomly, and not in a straight line. Does that mean you didn't try to follow an contours or breaks? Did you allow the jig to drop to the bottom before jerking it?

Thanks!

Lee:

Very good question. Thanks for asking. It is so hard to get all the pertinent information into a show.

We were forward trolling. The fish were scattered throughout the area, so it wasn't important to hang on a particular depth or drop-off. We mostly worked the 7-9 foot range.

When rip-jigging, the rod is snapped forward, then dropped back on a tight line. The process is then repeated. Sometimes you feel the strike, sometimes the fish is there when you snap the rod.

Great technique that works well on Winnie or lakes like Winnie, scattered fish that are hungry are prime targets for rip-jigging. Try adding plastic, like a Power Grub to the jig instead of the minnow.

We will be highlighting rip-jigging on the last segment of Fishing the Midwest again next week. Will be some more details that help, I hope.

Thanks for the question, and thanks for watching FTM. Please let me know if you have comments or questions. I really appreciate your input.

Bob Jensen

I tried rip-jigging in Canada on some flats and it worked real well, also I caught a couple in Clear Lake using the same method,it didn't seem to make much of a difference even if the jig wasn't close to the bottom, when their hungry they will chase it!Great show Bob,a good down to earth half hour that the average angler can relate to.I like the cooking section, after watching the show I got so hungry I thawed out some crappies I caught a couple of weeks ago and fried em up,I have tried alot of those other recipes and most are good but you still can't beat deep fried fish!
