Ice conditions on West Okoboji are improving with the colder weather. Foot travel is recommended. You can use an ATV but don't go out too far. Little Emerson and Little Millers Bay has a bite going on small northern pike and a few bluegills and crappies. The bluegills must be suspended in deeper water and have yet to come shallow.
Big Spirit Lake has slowed down on its perch bite, but you can still catch a meal with some sorting. Anglers Bay is producing some nice bluegills in old weed beds. A few keeper walleye are being caught in the evenings.
Storm Lake has started to produce some walleyes in the deep cuts that were dredged out.
Silver Lake at Ayrshire is slow on perch and crappie. There are a few walleye caught on Elk Lake and lost Island.
Keep a tight line and may your aim be straight. Jim McDonnell is a professional fishing guide and outdoor writer from the Iowa Great Lakes. 712 933-5532.
