Haven't fished it for years, but there used to be a really neat restaurant on the lake that you should check out. It was called the "Bauer Haus" and was built in the early 1900's by some German Baron. It had been converted into a restaurant, but I don't know if it's still open or not. There's also a neat golf course on the lake called The Tagalong. It's only 9 holes, but modeled after a Scottish "links" type course and has a neat clubhouse and bar that overlooks the lake. A couple of ideas if the fishing is slow. My family vacationed up there for years at Birchwood, just North of there. It's a really neat area. Have fun.
Fuzman,
The Bauer House has been gone for 15 years. It's a private residence now. U wouldn't believe how this lake has had the shoreline built up. The Tagalong is now an 18 hole course. Fishing has changed much in the last 10 years. I lived on the lake for 3 years and occasionally get back to fish it. It's a tough lake to find fish.
You might try posting on the bfhp (http://www.wmi.org/bassfish/) for xctycoach..cross country coach. I think his name is Craig. He goes there a few times a year. He'll share what he knows. We swapped maps a few years ago. I've fished Long Lake for years.

I live in Barron County and fish the lake ocassionally.
It is the best lake in the county for Walleye numbers.
You should hit the best eye fishing of the year
if we have a normal ice out (right now we have about 40 inches).
Most people at that time use slip bobber and leach with a
plain hook. Don't be afraid to drag around the edges of drop
offs to locate the fish first. The north end of the lake is
good and there is tons of structure. The first week of June
the female walleyes should be active. Normal ice out for this
lake is about April 20th and the spawn normally done about
May 1st. The lake does get some Walleye fishing pressure so just
watch where other people fish if you don't know where to go.
Fish the weather, the best time is always
the day before a front comes through when you have a south
wind. There are a lot of great lakes in that area Big Chetac
is just a few miles north and is known for good eyes also.
Last, don't forget about the Smallmouth Bass should be at
the peak of there spawn, cruise the shallow water and spot them then
throw a leech or crawler in there bed and you'll have a blast.
Good Luck

From opening weekend to mid or late May(depending on the year, ice out, temps) the walleye bite is usually a shallow shoreline bite. I fish the eyes during this period with jigs and minnows. Starting in mid to late May into late June the eyes move onto the midlake shallow flats. At this time I switch to slip bobbers and leeches. The best midlake flats are on the north end and are not too hard to find, however they are not well marked on any of the available maps. This walleye bite on the flats will occur all day and I have had some of my best fishing mid day during calm days, clear or cloudy. The flats on the north end top out at 6 to 7 feet.

Noel,
Thanks for the interesting feedback. What an awesome private residence the Bauer Haus must be! I could only dream about having a place like that. I may take my parents up there this summer for their 50th wedding anniversary to kind of relive our old family vacations. Have to tee up a few at the Tagalong. Take care.
