Just returned from a perch trip to Lake Winnibigoshish.. Tremendous action. Lots of perch, many jumbos.

Fished with Brian Brosdahl. "Bro" guides in the Winnie area. He guides for perch and panfish. When "Bro" drilled a hole, there was a perch coming through it just a few seconds later usually. "Bro" is a very good guy to fish with: Knowledgeble, fun to be with, and very successful at fishing. Call him at 218-665-2217.

Buck-Shot Rattle Spoons were the hot jig, tipped them with minnow heads and Power Natural Maggots. The fish liked them equally. Spoon color was a consideration. The preferred different colors as the light decreased later in the day.

The folks at Judd's resort have some cabins available and lake access is good there also. 218-665-2216

If you're looking for a good bite for nice-sized perch, Winnie is the place to be.

Heading to Judd's 3-14-03, I can't wait. I hope the action is that good by the time we get there. How is the ice depth?

The perch bite should continue at least until you get there, could go even longer.

Lots of ice. I didn't pay attention to exact depth, but there was at least 36 inches. You could drive anywhere, very little snow.

Enjoy your trip, let us know how you do.

We fished Winne on Friday & Sat., 2/28 & 3/1. Bid darn Lake. We went out about 3 miles and were in 30+ foot of water. Ice was 38+ thick. Had fair luck, as did the guys around us. Got to see a guy from Wisconsin pull in a "Lawyer"....EelPout. Must have weighed 7 pounds +/-. UGLY!!!

Got caught in the wind Sat. p.m. and had a heck of time seeing to get off. Didn't have 4 wheel drive and got stuck twice.

I'll go back again, but would get to Red earlier for the evening bite.

Was at Winnie last weekend, fishing was fair, should only start to get better as fish move shallower. Best action for bigger fish was 25-30 feet, but we did find some fish in the 20 feet, mostly smaller males. Did catch a few nice walleyes and northern also. We did limit out, about half the fish were in the 12 inch range.
