Well I have heard a lot of storys but this has to be the best. In Iowa there are some lakes doing some strange things with open water in lakes where it has never been before. The latest story is the earthquake in Nebraska shook enuff to cause the springs in some lakes to heat up thus opening the water up. This is kind of crazy but some of the lakes where guys in ther sevntys have lived said they have never seen open spots like this year. any ideas or comments. Oh the earthquake is new to me to ??? :D

The open water anomalies that have been occuring, are directly related to the huge amounts of rainfall the midwest has been recieving the last couple of summers. The water tables are full and the easiest path for the water tables to take (in some areas) is lake bottom break through. This has been occuring here in Minnesota for a couple years now. I'm not exactly sure about Nebraska but, it most likely is the case there as well.

it has been drier than a popcorn fart in Nebraska for a couple of summers now, so I don't think that is it. There are earthquakes in Nebraska on occasion, but I doubt that is the reason for the open water. To tell the truth, I have no idea why.

I have heard that story about East Okoboji there is an area that never froze over this year and that was what I heard was the reason. I am not sure if it is but this is the first year in 30 I have seen it not freeze there all year ???

I see your point. If it has been that dry there than water is not an issue. Must be something else and I'm not an earthquake expert. ;-)
