Does anyone know of a nice family resort in northern MN that won't cost an arm and a leg.

I will be going with my wife and 2 kids. They want to catch fish. Doesn't have to be anything huge. It would be great if we could find a lake that they could do some pan fishing; maybe catch a few walleyes in the 3 to 4 pound category and also latching onto a northern bigger than a cigar. Maybe I'm asking too much. Any suggestions?

I would also be open to fishing in the Walker area if that would be just as good.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Kabetogama has larger eyes too, along w/ the rest of Voyager. The tight slot make for lots of decent fish. Nice northerns too. I have stayed at Watson's Harmony beach. Nice place for families and reasonable.

Also-Stoney Point on Cass lake is very nice, great beach for families. Lots of 16-20" eyes and a great muskie and northern fishery.

Many great fishing and family resorts on the Gunflint Trail. This is the Grand Marais side of things. I have guided for several of these lodges, send me a private email and I will give you my true opinion without posting any websites here.

I fish alot on Lake Kabetogama. We had a cabin there in the 70s. The Grassy islands are good and so is the sand bar on the southeast side of Bittersweet island. Lots of walleyes, pike of size, and a ****load of saugers. Slot limit has helped the walleyes and i hear they will have a slot for pike, too.

There are lots of nice lodges/resorts in the Ely area. Many of them on the outskirts of the BWCAW are the only resorts on their lake.

I suggest going to the Ely Chamber of Commerce web site and asking for some information.

Go to http://www.ely.org

Good luck and we hope to see you up here this summer!
