The Little Sioux River from the Linn Grove dam to below the town of Peterson continues to pump out numbers of walleye in all sizes. The stretch from Spencer to Sioux Rapids has good walleye fishing also. A canoe or small flatbottom boat lets you cover alot of walleye spots on both sides of the river.
Our catch a few days ago resulted in a mixed bag of walleyes from 15 to 20 inches. Also all sizes of Carp, Buffalo, Red Horse, Sheephead, Northern Pike and White Bass. Lots of action kept things very interesting. 1/16 or 1/8 oz. jig heads with a 3 or 4-inch Power Grub in white or chartruse was producing the most fish. Another option is a 1/16 oz Fireball jig with a minnow or a Roach Rig slip sinker rig with a chub or nite crawler. 6 or 8-pound Ironsilk in mist green, or 6 to 20 pound Fireline was the line we used. The river will eat up many jigs so be prepared. One or two barbs on the collar of your jig head helps keep the Power Grub on, and super glue on the hook shank will help keep the grub from slipping down.
There is good Crappie and Bluegill action at The Harbor and Canals of West Okoboji. Small Gypsi Jigs under a Litebite Bobber will usually get action. Try several different colors before moving on. Big Spirit's Grade is fair to good on crappies and bluegills. Some bullhead activity is underway with the above seasonal warm weather, but that will change. Storm Lake is producing nice walleyes and white bass to the wading fisherman, especially at twilight. Power grubs and light jigheads are a must as many of the walleyes are in 3-foot or less of water. Silver Lake at Lake Park and Lost Island have a good evening walleye bite on lighted bobbers and leeches. Stop by the State Fish Hatchery at Orleans and check out the big walleyes and muskies.
The only thing that slows down our fishing is a severe cold front that will drop the temperature over 20 degrees.
