for the most part. Even Burntside is just about totally ice free.

We are going to explore the Crab River to see if we can take it into Crab Lake. Gotta be an easier way to get to those smallmouth! :)

Lynn, Thank for the info. Big Lake here in Duluth
still has ice on the south shore. Winds are keeping
it on shore. Smelt still are not running. Some loopers
on the Lester and French Rivers. A few steelhead have
been spoted in the rivers but water is still very cold.

John goes to Crab tomorrow. There is a good sized chunk of ice on the north end of Burntside, but they are going to try to get a tow boat across anyway.

Seems like John Hanson (Hand Done T-shirts) lives on Burntside and thinks it is a pretty good chance.

Well, John & Dave made it through the Crab River and back over to Burntside without much trouble, and the river levels were down, too!

We'll keep checking it out. The Forest Service may go in there and put a walk in the beaver dam area, but not sure when.
